Hi!! I am having my surgery (upper, lower) in Halifax at the QEII in

February. May I ask where you live? I'm in Saint , I used to

live in NS though. My surgeon will be Dr. Precious (great name huh!

LOL) I didn't really get a choice, I don't know if my case fell into

his hands b/c of the type of surgery I needed but my ortho contacted

him specifially. In any event, I believe there are 3 really great

surgeons there, and mine is reportedly one of the best in the

world. He is very experienced and has even gone to places like

Vietnam to offer his services for children with cleft palates etc.

I feel like I am in good hands! By the way, I believe the other

surgeons' names are Dr. Lovely and Dr. Goodfellow LOLOL

Do you have your braces yet? Didn't your ortho do all the

arrangements with the hospital/surgeon? Unlike the States, I think

things run a little differently here ~ since healthcare pays for it

I believe arrangements are made according to specialization in a

particular surgery. It isn't cosmetic surgery that you're paying

for, so it's not like you can walk in off the street and make the

arrangements yourself. If you prefer a particular surgeon based on

his experience, you may be able to get him, however the waiting

period could be a lot longer.

Let me know if you have any questions ~ you can also read about my

experiences in February when I post my report (I wish I knew someone

who had it done in Halifax!) I am very nervous, but this group helps

me a lot=)

Hi

I am living in St. 's, Newfoundland and am having my surgery here

some time later this year. I have Dr. Cardinal as my OS and I was

told that he was the best here. I sort of didn't have a choice but I

am glad to hear that he will be doing my surgery. My OD is Dr. Flynn

and the two of them are buddies which is really good ... Dr. Flynn is

a DOLL!!!

I waited a very long time....over a year for a consultation with Dr.

Cardinal but am finally on the road.

Nice to meet another person in Canada and in the Atlantic Provinces.

Take care

Tanja

Do an archive search on 'precious' and 'lovely.' I think at least

one other person has had those surgeons before. (Yes, the names are

memorable! You sure they aren't " noms des medicins " )

You may have to go back through several 'takes' of archives, but I'm

thinking they were within the last year or so...

Down here in Alabama, U.S.A., my ortho referred me to the surgeon,

but I was the one who was instructed when to call to set up the

appointments.

Hey Tanja! It's good to know there are some Atlantic Canadians on

here=) Do you have your surgery date yet? That is a long time to

wait for a consultation, but at least you're on the go now! I just

took a look at your pics, you can already see a lot of changes with

just the braces ~ I'm going to post some pics too, but maybe after

my surgery in Feb. It will be exciting to have some " after " pics=)

Are you nervous? What all are you having done?

Hello

I don't have my surgery date as of yet. I just had my wires changed

for the first time and the OD said that my teeth were moving really

well for an adult. I would guess that I will probably have my

surgery around August or September. I don't know if there is a long

wait to get into surgery either so who knows. Secretly I am hoping

to have my surgery done in May but I don't think that is going to

happen. We are living in St. 's and will be moving back to

Labrador City in May. That is not for sure yet either so everything

is up in the air. I was really hoping that I could have my surgery

done while we are still living here but if not then I will have to

fly back and forth. Not really looking forward to flying all wired

and lovely looking :)

I had only a brief consultation with the OS and he said that for sure

I will be having my upper jaw I guess cut and moved up a bit...maybe

back too but not sure. He said that my lower jaw might adjust

normally to the upper movement and may not need to be done. He said

that he will not know till days before surgery as he said that they

make a mold of your jaw and then he does the surgery on the molds to

see how everything will move.

My OD said that he would like to see my chin fixed and I readily

agreed LOL....add to the fact that they are buddies and I think I am

in good hands.

As far as being nervous. HECK YA!!!!! I am not sure if being on

here is good for me or not. :) It is a wealth of excellent

information but you also read all the bad things that can happen and

to be honest it really freaks me out. I am glad to know what will

happen and what could happen but at times I think I need to " step

away from the computer " !!!

Again it is nice to meet a fellow Canadian..

Take Care

Tanja

PS thanks for the comment about my progress...I thought I could kinda

see a bit of a difference in the pics too, mostly my front two

teeth.
