Guest guest
Hi everyone, I joined this group a few weeks ago and am learning a lot from everyone on here. I am 33 years old, Australian, and have had braces three times (at the age of 9, 14, and 17). Apparently my parents were told when I was 9 that surgery would help, but didn't want to put me through it. Hence, three sessions of braces and ready for my fourth. This time I have decided to " bite " the bullet and actually get the surgery done. It was a tough decision because I am borderline in my need for the surgery. I have an overbite, which is a problem because my teeth are mobile and my jaw doesn't meet in a way that provides stability. But it's functional and isn't that noticeable unless I actually go out of my way to show people my bite in profile! Braces go on in a month or so, and then surgery to advance my lower jaw around 9-12 months later. I am a university lecturer, so the thought of standing up there in front of my students with a mouth full of braces does not appeal to me at all (and I already look young for my age - braces will not help!)...but it seems there's little choice! Any other Aussies here? Sam.
