I have had a breast reduction (double mastectomy...lol... oh now, come on, ya gotta laugh or we are gonna have to cry about it), > batwingectomy, and an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). I have the best > body I have ever had in my life even without the chest (although > husband may dispute this)..... I am over chemo and over surgery (with no evidence of disease)....Ladies: have you had your mammogram yet?... the best way to get a cure is early detection,<<< What a terrific attitude, Jan! You are right, if we can't laugh, we're gonna be terribly sad. Thanks for the reminder. BTW, I already have my annual mamogram scheduled for next week! Guest guest
Ok Jan, I am laughing with you over the breast reduction. My MOM is a 15 years survivor! We used to tease her (right after the mastectomy and before the reconstruction) that she NOW had room in a shirt pocket to put a pocket size radio (those were the good old transistor days)! When she got her prosthesis she had to show it to all of us. LOL I nearly died when she plopped this thing into my hand and it FELT SO REAL! Totally grossed me out, but we had a GOOD laugh about it. I saw her scar before and her new breast after. She shared it all. She teased her Doctors about being hooked up to a VERY large i glass when they had her on the IV. The only time I know she had problems is when they were doing physical therapy. My Mom is one tough gal, but when that Therapist said she HAD to do something my mother knew she wasn't physically ready to do...Mom went back to her room and cried. None of the Doctors or Nurses had ever seen her cry. Needless to say, Mom didn't go back to that physical therapist and was allowed to do her exercises at her rate. She got full range of motion back doing the exercises on her own! Needless to say I get a mammography every year and do self exams as well.
