Guest guest
Tigger, is your stomach stapled, transected or banded? Debbie in Gig Harbor (170cm medial) ladybostons@... http://www.cafeshops.com/copsstore -----Original Message----- From: tigger57ri Hi all! As many of you know I've been having a heck of a time losing my weight.... 16 months, 70 pounds. I've been at the same weight now for about 2 months. My problem is.... a couple of weeks ago I ate something that didn't agree with me and I started vomiting (sorry), and I couldn't stop. I ended up with the dry heaves and wound up in the ER. They gave me IV fluids and some phenegran for the nausea. After that I had the worst pain in my stomach for almost 2 weeks. I figured I might have pulled or strained something and it just needed time to heal. Well, since it healed it seems that I can eat more. I guess what I'm asking is... could I have done some actual damage to my surgery. I had Lap RNY on 2/12/02. I would think at this point there would be much a could do to hurt it... could there? Thanks, Tigger
Guest guest
Boy, do I feel stupid... I don't know. I believe it's stapled. I do not believe it's transected. All I know is that he by-passed 83cm. Which I gather is not that much. I can hear (Vitalady) now.... you should have a copy of your records. I will get them. I'm not fond of my surgeon, so I'll need them for any further follow-up (or is that foul up?). Guest guest
Well, first off...lets hope there is NO MORE fouling up. LOL If it is stapled then you might have a disrupted staple line. Can you eat more? Are you having gastric reflux? I was in denial about my staple line disruption until it hurt so bad and I had GAINED 67 pounds! ICK! And HEY, my original by-pass was ONLY 170 cm! So there! LOL When my doc did my transection, I had him by-pass another 100 cm. All this said, the only way you are going to find out is to get scoped. So, I would start looking for a new surgeon. Guest guest
It seems like all of a sudden I can eat more. I'm not sure if that's just because the pain was so bad before. I've had a terrible time with vomiting ever since my surgery (and before), but this last bout was the worst. The ER Dr. could feel the swollen stoma just by pressing on my stomach. I was scoped in February and they said everything was fine, except that he stretched me a little because I had started to develop a stricture. When you had your staple line disruption, were you in a lot of pain? When they did a revision, did insurance cover it? I can't afford to be out of work right now, and I'm not sure my insurance would even consider another surgery. I feel like I'm between a rock and the hard place. There have actually been times lately that I've regretted having the surgery. It seems like I've done so much for so little in return. Guest guest
Tigger, you may have just answered your own question. Call the Records Department of your hospital, get a copy of your Op report, find yourself a new doc for follow-up, and get yourself an upper GI to see if you have a staple line disruption. Good luck, in NJ ***************** > > Tigger, is your stomach stapled, transected or banded? > > > > Debbie in Gig Harbor (170cm medial) > >
Guest guest
Tiggerm you've been vomiting since your surgery, and your surgeon ignored it? No wonder you're calling him a foul-up. I had a staple line disruption, and I had no pain, no sign of anything except I could eat a lot more, and I had stopped gaining weight. After my upper GI, which showed the SLD, it was like a self- fulfilling prophecy, combined with a bit of depression, and I easily put on about 17 pounds right away. Meanwhile, 6 months and a new insurance company later, with a BMI of 35, Dr. Gagner, who did my transection, said it was a question of them seeing the benefit of approving it now or waiting until I had gained all my weight back. Thank G*d someone at Horizon BC/BS of NJ had the foresight to approve it. Since that transection, all has been fine. I hope you find a good doc who helps you figure out what's going on, and you're able to live pain-free and healthy very soon.
