Guest guest
One thing that helped with my stitches (they stayed in about 7 weeks) was swishing salt water around. It lengthened them, and actually at one visit, my surgeon trimmed them (you don't want to do that yourself!). Eventually they either all fell out or I swallowed them. I'd try the salt water rinse and see if that helps. >The OS said he could cut them out or I > could BRUSH THEM HARD and they would fall out??? Is this normal for > dissolvable stitches?? Guest guest
Thanks, That was what I was really wondering, if mine were in longer than others but its only been 6 weeks and they are all in tact so with everything else I suppose I need more time. I will swish with salt water. Were they uncomfortable at all for you in the 5-6 week period? Mine poke in the corners around my top cheek area. Guest guest
I actually pulled on one thinking it was stuck food, and I do NOT recommend that, it hurt! I think the uncomfortable part was knowing they were still in, and trying not to dislodge them before their time (while brushing). I was also concerned that they might hold bacteria so I was extra careful in my cleaning regimen. Why not ask your surgeon to trim them? > > >The OS said he could cut them out or I > > > could BRUSH THEM HARD and they would fall out??? Is this normal > for > > > dissolvable stitches?? Guest guest
Katja, Be thankful that your stitches are falling out!! I seriously think they used nondissolvable in me! It scared me so bad last week when we went to Chattanooga and I was looking in the mirror at the hotel and lifted my lip and saw a huge line of stitches from one end of my gums to the other!! I hadn't even realized I had that many! Then I was thinking they look so IN TACT! I have the same pinch in my upper left side by my molars. When I open my mouth to talk it feels like my hardware rubbs against it or something. I haven't a clue all the things going on in my mouth. I was day dreaming yesterday about the day when I have no metal any where in my mouth to rub against or pinch the inside of my mouth!! All smooth....sigh... not a moment too soon :) Jane > > > >The OS said he could cut them out or I > > > > could BRUSH THEM HARD and they would fall out??? Guest guest
Two visits ago he cut some of the knots out and it was painful! He actually told me to brush them hard! To help loosen and dissolve I suppose. That isn't so comfotable either so I think next time I go in 2 weeks I'll just ask him to trim some. Ahhhh I just hate the thought but want them gone!! Guest guest
Try not to worry, but ask your docs if the worry persists. I never even was aware of the stitches. Have no clue when they dissolved/fell out. And I did fine. We all heal differently. Cammie > > Now I'm starting to worry that my stitches fell out too soon!! Guest guest
Thanks Cammie. I'm not horribly worried, probably because I have two much more pressing worries on my mind right now that I intend to ask about first thing tomorrow.... Nothing I can do about the stitches being gone now and the surgeon at 2 subsequent visits has never commented, so my fear was an irrational one. That is great you weren't aware of yours at all. I haven't been so much. I had one that pulled a little but has been gone for a while now. The only time I know when I've lost one is when I'm rinsing and I see the little clump of knots in the sink. Otherwise, who knows where in the abyss that is my mouth they are.... food gets lost who knows where... it's probably getting together with the stitches for some kind of ho-down or something in some back dark numb protected corner near molar #2. Thanks for the input though! Katja > > > > Now I'm starting to worry that my stitches fell out too soon!! > Some > > were coming out maybe one week after surgery!
