Here's what I've learned from my own experience and from this group:

1. CT tends to be a little more expensive than the STARband

2. You can't go wrong with a DOC band - I've never heard of anyone not getting good correction.

3. The STARband is a good product as well, but there is more variability in this expertise of the orthotist. You'll need to make sure that you're in good hands.

4. The earlier that you get into the band, the better. At 7 months, you'll get wonderful correction. Although to be honest, 8 months probably wouldn't make a huge difference.

5. DOC bands typically require more frequent adjustments (every week or two depending upon age). The STARband is typically 2 weeks. For us, it was 2 to 4 weeks because was older.

6. The life is the STARband is 6 months and the life of the DOC band is 4 months. If the length of time in the band is less than 4 months, it won't make a difference. If it's longer than 4, but less than 6, then you'd need two DOC bands, but just one STARband. This depends upon age as well as severity.

Personally, is in a STARband. She will have been in it for the full 6 months when she graduates on May 11th. Our experience has been a good one. For us, the extra expense, extra travel distance, and extra amount of wait time to get a DOC band was the reason that we went with the STARband. Plus, given her age, she would have only been able to wear it for 4 months rather than 6 months. CT told me that would not do a second band for a 19 month old baby (this is different than the experience of others on the board, but it is what I was told over the phone).

's band fit well and she has had good correction for her age (we'll get the final numbers in 1.5 weeks). Our ortho is good and the staff is pleasant. Good luck with your decision.

Star VS Cranial TechnologiesPedi recommended Star, but a friend gave me good recommendations from Cranial Tech. I called both places and Star was almost a month to get in and Cranial got me in the next week. We went on Monday to the consultation. Found out he does need the helmet, $3600 insurance will cover 60%. Went home and checked, Star is IN NETWORK, so it would be 80%. I have read a few negative comments about STAR, I found this group and wanted to know what any of your experiences were?My son is 7 months old, so I want to get this started as soon as possible.
