Sally S. was always writing about her pain (500 lbs.) It turns out that she had undiagnosed Cancer. But by the time they noticed, it had spread so far that they can do nothing about it. My school nurse, eons ago, taught me well. I said I can't take pills. She said we all have these swallowers at the back of our throats that can't tell the difference between pills and hamburger. So yes you can swallow pills. Until this day, I have no problem taking pills. Because in my mind there is no difference between a pill and a piece of cheese, or hamburger, or chip. My 2 cents. Guest guest
What is the elixir? What kinda iron? I'd have trouble with liquids, too, I fear. I just don't do chews or liquids or sublinguals. It is either a pill or it doesn't get in. Of course, protein, being chocolate, is an exception. LOL! You know, I take a ton of pills & people get all freaked out. I always tell me that I lost 150# and I can easily take 150 pills a day. Would you to lose 150? And I can get 150g protein a day, same reasoning. I DON'T take 150 pills, but I could if it meant those 150 # never find me again. But I do take LOTS of pills and certainly not all are required. I go thru my trade stuff & boy, everything sounds like such a great idea! LOL! That's how I found the Relora. And stevia. And all the carb control stuff. I'm a wimp and I don't care if it's a crutch. I'm more scared of the weight coming back than I am of taking pills or being called a wimp. So, if that helps you get your vites & such in? You said you didn't take meds pre-op. I'm here to tell you. Had you lived long enough, you WOULDA. You just weren't taking them YET. NOW, yeah, you take vites, but LOOK WHAT YOU GET FOR IT! And someone is checking your labs, tweaking things all nice. No one ever did that BEFORE for us, right? They just assume fat folks have enough everything on board! And MANY of us were anemic or osteoporitic BEFORE surgery--but no one knew. Or particularly cared. Don't get me started. Anyway, those of us who have been anemic all our lives and NOW are not, are totally amazed at the difference. I'm delighted to hear of a doc who is interested in the real life adventures of us WLS types. Instead of the just reading about us or studying " studies " , which may or may not have anything to do with us. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
I too was never a pill taker prior to wls and have had to make a major adjustment to get the supps in. In the beginning, wasn't very successful, but took more than I did prior to wls so figured I was doing ok. Have been very diligent over the past year with the iron and calcium supplements, however, it seems no matter how much iron I take, it's not working. Latest blood work shows hemoglobin of 9.6, hematocrit of 24.7 and Ferritin of 2. We have changed my iron to the Niferex and doc started me out on double the dose. Will take more blood in a few weeks to see if anything has changed. My doctors were also impressed with all the different types of iron supplementation I was telling them about and why one was better than the other in regards to absorption. Hoping something works, otherwise, we're going to have to do infusions prior to having the partial hysterectomy done in a few months. They don't want to do surgery when my blood counts are sooooo low. Happy Mother's Day to all. Regina
