Guest guest
Marla, most people with sarc have no problems with taking calcium & especially need it for bone loss from Pred. There is a small percentage of sarc patients who, because of a defect in their metabolism, have too much calcium in the blood; even more people have too much in the urine. You can ask your doctor if your calcium levels have been checked; if not, it's a good idea to do it. If you don't have hypercalcemia (elev. calcium in blood) or hypercalciuria (urine), you shouldn't have any problem taking calcium supplements. I know Tracie has written lots about the relationships between calcium, Vitamin D & other stuff; I tried to find some of it, but my brain is slowly grinding to a half tonight. I'll try to find something tomorrow. I hope this was of some help! Ramblin' RoseModerator To: neurosarcoidosis From: mebramer@...Date: Thu, 18 Jun 2009 19:12:46 -0600Subject: Calcium ? Hey for anyone? Do you know if we should or shouldn't be taking Calcium? I bought a bottle for my sonand he said "hey Mom did you read the warnings, of course I "didn't", it said you should not take if you have Sarcoidosis, NO kidding?? I've been taking Ca for years, maybe that's my problem. Anyway does anyone know anything about this? I probably did at one time, but can't remember. I saw my Dermatologist today, I have like 3 skin cancers, I just wanted her to look at the sarcoid lesionstoo, I thought I knew the difference,(and I do) but felt better having someone look at them, she bx one, and gave me an Rx for some cream that I put on every day for 6 weeks. My Sarc lesions don't bleed, and the skin Ca ones do. I have a lot of Sarc lesions but the Protopic I use works great. I am behind again in emails, imagine that:) and will try to catch up. Thanks. Guest guest
Thank Rose, yes it is helpful, I know years ago when I was getting sicker I did a 24 hr urine, and they checked Ca, don't think it is something they routinely check for, I see my doc next week, I'll ask him.
