Guest guest
Mara,Colazol is something I am planning on looking into, not sure if it contains sulfa or not but I wanted to ask the doc about it because it has the 2 pronged attack with keeping bacteria under control as well as anti-inflamatory like the asacol. Also going to ask about sulfasaline and see if I can get past the allergy reaction by following the directions from some scd site I found where you start with 1/4 pill and work your way up. Apparently a lot of people can get over the reaction this way.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: BTVC-SCD From: alcibiades@...Date: Sun, 14 Mar 2010 13:09:10 -0400Subject: Re: Re: After almost a year I notice how much i've been doing wrong. So, back to basics but need advice. Can you ask your doctor about whether colazal would work for you or not viz. the sulpha? I have a ton I would be happy to donate to you from when I stopped it last year. And PJ is right that the doctor may have some asacol samples - I know my doctor gave me a bunch of colazal samples on a few occasions - they may certainly have some lying around. > > Hi , > It doesn't look to me like you are doing anything wrong food-wise. I know of drug companies that have made arrangements for people who have had difficulty buying meds. The recent recession has left a lot of people without health insurance. I know that doctors are aware of this and don't want their patients to stop their medication. Maybe your doctor has some drug samples or can switch you to another medication? Is there a free clinic in your area or relatives that can help? I know in the past that you have responded to prednisone, which is not very expensive.I hope you can get some medication. I'm concerned that by saving money on Asacol while you are not doing well, that you may end up feeling worse which is a lot more expensive ( and miserable ) to fix in the long run. > > Staying on SCD in the long run will help, but losing weight and blood will not help you heal at the moment. I'm having alot of trouble identifying what foods I am reacting to right now. I think the problem is that I am weening off my medicine too quickyl, but I have no choice in that matter. Guest guest
and anyone else without insurance, www.needymeds.com is a good resource for low-,no-cost patient assistance programs. Merck has a discount card and so does TogetherRX for different types of medicine. If you don't find the medicine you need, look at the manufacturer and google them. For instance, Shire is the only company for Pentasa so you would have to contact them directly via an 800 number. Even though it says they do not have patient assistance at this time, they do and I think a Crohn's Disease or UC diagnosis is required but it's been awhile since I've done that so it could have changed. They also have to go through your doctor and it's required you pick it up from your doctor. You just have to read the different requirements for each medicine. Sorry if this is OT. Guest guest
I'm trying to avoid the Azathioprine if I can help it. Started taking prednisone at 40mg a day and i'll taper off slow. It's taking the flare away, finally. sometimes it's hard to find the right combo of drugs to go along with SCD. The other thing that sucks it that we work so hard to get rid of illegals, then put them back into our bodies intentionally by taking the meds. Oh well, at least it's not as bad as eating a slice of commercial bread or something.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: BTVC-SCD From: andy.thestud@...Date: Mon, 15 Mar 2010 07:04:44 +0000Subject: Re: After almost a year I notice how much i've been doing wrong. So, back to basics but need advice. - SCD alone is not going to help you at this stage, I think. SCD is long-term, you need something for short-term to get you in balance. Azathioprine helped me a lot getting off prednisone, and giving me remission. It is cheap -- takes a month to kick-in. Some might not respond, but if you respond -- that'll help you a lot. Please check with your doctor. Also, 12 pills asacol/day is full dose. You should get on that full dose along with azathioprine or something else to get your symptoms under control. I hope you are able to find something soon. Take care -Andy. Hotmail: Trusted email with powerful SPAM protection. Sign up now.
