Guest guest
Oh , Please don't be scared. Try to stay positive. Maybe your step-father suffered a lot because in general older patients have a harder time adapting to new living conditions e.g. in this case having ur jaw wired shut. Younger patients (and i'm guessing you're youngish) usually adapt more easily and more importantly, heal a lot more quickly. Just think, you've already gotten the widsom teeth out which is a big deal. I know it's scary, I'm scared too but I try to concentrate on the end result which is that you'll have a better bite and beautiful smile. In terms of wiring that depends on your case and from doctor to doctor. Generally if you get wired it can vary from only 2 weeks to a maximum of 8 weeks I think. The doctors should be able to tell you for exactly how long you'll be wired about a month before surgery. Remember, stay positive, take deep breaths and think how much better yo'll feel after all of this. Sara > > Ya... i feel really nervious about what is going on. Guest guest
, most people have very little pain. There are exceptions, it is true, but most people don't actually hurt much. Ask your surgeon whether he plans to wire you shut, and how long he thinks it will be. Some don't. I had a splint wired in, for lower advancement, but no bands and no wires. And I know others who haven't even had the splint. How long, is totally unpredictable. Times have ranged from not at all to 8 to 10 weeks. If he was wired tightly shut, and particularly if it was for a long time, it may be that the experience of being wired has him wincing. (Or it may be that he had some unusual reactions to something.) Usually wiring isn't painful, but combined with the usual swelling and stuffiness after upper jaw work, it can be most frustrating. Can you speak candidly with your step-dad about this, and ask him to tell you what his was like, especially if you're using the same docs? He may be able to put your mind at ease. If not, tell your surgeon what you've told us, and ask him to help with your anxiety. Be sure your docs know about your history with Vicodin, though. Best, Cammie P.S. Most everybody is not " a little scared, " but " a whole lot scared. " And then post-op, when recovery is well under way, most of us realize how much we worried when we really didn't need to, at all.
