Guest guest
Dear Ones, re: egg whites in a carton: in addition to SCD concerns, I know I red about them in Cook's Illustrated, probably a product test, and was not then tempted to buy them. Ok, just re-viewed it in Cook's: they had good results with one brand, but recommended against Egg Beaters and Pappetti brand of egg whites. They did ok with one brand, Eggology, however there's a real probability that those are not SCD legal; I know NOTHING about the brand , and use regular eggs. Marilyn: what beagle? I know you as Mom to Dachsunds! sorry to hear about your glasses/ lack thereof. Ruth Re: Really yum: meringues: a not so caloric scd treatPosted by: " Amelia Bhide " bhide_thehague@... bhide_thehagueTue Mar 16, 2010 2:29 am (PDT) , I think you hit the nail on the head -- didn't realize you were using egg whites from a carton. Technically they should be fine, but obviously they aren't working for you. Definitely try 'real' eggs and see what happens. Amelia P.S. I am too impatient, I have never let my eggs come to room temperature before whipping and I haven't had a problem yet. ________________________________ To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Tue, March 16, 2010 4:39:00 AM Subject: Re: Really yum: meringues: a not so caloric scd treat Ruth, I can't take credit for creating the recipe, only reposting it :-). , are you using an electric mixer? Then I take the heated honey (I mix the salt and flavor in the honey), and drizzle it in with the mixer running on 1. And remember how I was asking about raw food for cats a while back? My parents are finally on board, and we're gradually weaning her onto raw food! YAY!!!! I am SO super excited. Mom's scared of salmonella, which I can understand, since she's been on kibble her whole life, so we're very gradually increasing the amount of raw chicken we give her. Luckily, I think she also has concluded that this is food as she wishes to know it =) I'm glad your folks are on board with the raw food for your Catlady! It's so much better for them than kibble! You can remind your folks what my vet said: animal's stomachs are more acid than human stomachs, so they don't need to worry about salmonella. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

Because the variety of raw food I bought for my cat (nature's variety - the only commercial one he'll eat so far) just sent around a voluntary recall for possible samonella contamination. What Dr. Sagrera told me was that she had never had an animal get sick from fresh raw food. She did put one caveat on that -- she had one, who was already sick when he got hold of some older chicken. I don't, for instance, feed Shadow and Sunny (or Babette) chicken that smells to high heaven. But they are unlikely to have a problem with a level of salmonella that would have me puking my guts out. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
The greyhound would have stolen my heart! I love those guys :-). At my dog park, there are 2 full sized and 2 Italians. Otis the IG is my good buddy. I'll feel a light little tap on my back (he's about 8 pounds, but long legged), and it will be him wanting some love. Or if I'm petting another dog, he'll shove his tiny head under my armpit and force his way in :-). Unfortunately, my dog and Otis don't see eye to eye. Oh, there was no DOUBT who the greyhound's Mom was! Harry had taken Ko (the Dachshund before Shadow and Sunny) out for an early morning walk on a cold, blustery day (about 5:30a), and the greyhound came running up to him with " I'm lost! I'm scared! I'm cold! " He brought the dog in (and Ko didn't like that one bit!) and called me to come help. I stumbled up front to find the greyhound perched in one of my oak dining room chairs while Ko circled the chair and said, " You don't belong here! " I looked at the dog's collar, and found a tag which gave a phone number, and said, " If I'm out, I'm lost. " Knowing how I would feel if my dog were missing, I figured anyone who would put a tag like that on their dog wouldn't care about a 5:45a phone call. So I called, and when a lady answered the phone, I asked, " Are you missing a large brown dog? " Her response, " YES! Have you found him? " (Turned out he was a retired racing hound she had rescued. She had gone to the store the evening before and the wind blew her door open, and he was gone when she came back. She'd found his " brother, " another rescued greyhound, but not him.) I gave her our address, and she practically teleported over -- she was only about two blocks away. Harry opened the door, and the greyhound catapulted out of the chair, the length of my dining room, and into her arms! Imagine catching a full-grown greyhound like that! But there was absolutely no doubt they loved each other. <g> Ko basically said, " Humph! Bringing a huge dog like that in here... he might have hurt my cats! Guest guest
That's a great story! I'd love to adopt an ex-racer. Did you get a " greyhound hug " from him? I used to be pals with Charlie (now deceased), and he would lean his big body against me, and kind wrap his head around my leg. I guess that's their way of saying they like you. Poor Charlie had to wear booties most of the time, because racing had ripped up his pads. When he wasn't in booties, he would stick his feet into one of the water bowls at the park to to relive them. Such wonderful dogs! Holly > >The greyhound would have stolen my heart! I love > >those guys :-). At my dog park, there are 2 full > >sized and 2 Italians. Otis the IG is my good > >buddy. Guest guest
I'm reading LOL Cat Bible. Has cute pictures of cats too. Makes me ''lol'' too. Have you thought of writing books like that Marilyn? You tell great pet stories (after the cookbook of course!). Debbie > That's a great story! I'd love to adopt an ex-racer.
