Guest guest
hi, warning...grossness ahead! this is something that happened to me for about the first year after surgery. if i ate things that had a substantial amount of fat, it would go through my bowels all by it's little lonesome self. with a BPD especially, you don't absorb fats. your bowel system is not made to hold that much oil. so, what happens is that the oil, which has the texture of old french fry grease that has sat in the bottom of the fryer, comes out because that particular oriface is not meant to hold back grease. you can help this by trying to avoid really fatty foods until your body settles down more. after the first couple of years, i am now able to incorporate oils more. if i eat something really oily...like fried chicken i will see blots of oil in my stool, but it won't just eject all by itself. hope that wasn't more info than you wanted peace, phyl bpd 5/10/90 250/140 and holding 13 years! Never quit. There is nothing less important than the score at half-time.
Guest guest
From what I have read, BPD, or DS surgeons generally remove the gall bladder during the surgery, right? Would the bowel incontinence have something to do with that instead of just the malabsorption of oils? I know for myself since having gall bladder removal in March that if I feel the first signal to go I'd better heed it and soon!! I am 34 and had lap RNY so none of this occured prior to surgery except the malabsorption of oils/fats.
