Guest guest
Greetings, Grads! Has anyone experienced strong cravings for vinegar, pickle juice, or even soy sauce -- straight up! -- since their WLS? I have a friend who is several months post-op (not yet a year), who has been having such cravings ever since the surgery, and at this point, sometimes drinks 6-8 oz of vinegar almost every day (with soy sauce) -- ackk!!! She's an RNY patient (not sure if prox. or dist.), and has been supplementing/vitamin'ing faithfully since the surgery. Evidently, her pouch tolerates the vinegar, but she is of course concerned about the persistence of this weird craving -- What does it mean? -- and the potential for harm to the pouch (if any) if she keeps ingesting so much vinegar. Is there some vitamin deficiency that might prompt these cravings? One helpful person from AMOS advised my friend that these cravings could mean she's getting *excess* calcium (based on some info found on a chiropractor website). (She's behind in getting her labs done, but will check on that, of course.) Ring a bell with anyone? Any/all advice or insights appreciated ... thanks! Suzy C.
