Guest guest
What about the gummi savers? I think you are putting way too much effort into this activity. I used to teach pre-K and 1st grade, and if I knew of all that you were going through, I would absolutely find an alternative activity for your child that would still teach the objective. You can't tell me the objective can't be met unless you string froot loops on a piece of yarn. Have you told the teacher of the struggle you are having? I am sure she would be understanding and able to come up with a way to meet that objective rather than via fruit loops and yarn. Teachers also have access to many " manipulatives " that aren't food items that your child could use. I know they wouldn't be edible...SIGH. Let us know what happens. :-) Janelle Jane 2 1/2 PDD-NOS Who is currently in her first day of Mother's Day Out and doing great! I am a nervous wreck, of course. 1 NT
Guest guest
I am still on my quest to find a fruit loop replacement for my son's preschool class fruit loop making necklace activity. I did find out some information that I thought might be helpful. I found Brach's Froot Loop fruit snacks. The ingredients looked okay to me, so I called Brach's to verify GFCF status. The representative I spoke with was very informed. She said that NONE of their products are deemed gluten free because they contain a gluten based (something...I can not remember). The FDA does not require them to list this on the label because they believe it is " cooked out " during processing. This was a good lesson for me in calling companies instead of just label reading. (This would still be a concern, wouldn't it????) I then bought some Peppermint lIfesavers. When I called Nabisco, they did not have information on the gluten and casein status of this product (again...the ingredients look okay to me: sugar, corn syrup, natural flavor, stearic acid). She said that she would refer my call to the Nutrition department (not to get an answer, but to let them know that someone was interested...NO HELP to me!) She said there was no way to get the information that I was looking for ( I do find that hard to believe). I asked her if they had a list of gluten and casein free products. She said that Nabisco does not, but is sending me a KRAFT list. If anyone is interested in the Kraft list or bombarding the " Nutrition Department " with requests for the gluten and casein status of the " stinkin' Peppermint lifesavers...the number is: 1-800-NABISCO (622-4726). If you find information that differs with what I was told, I would love to know about it. As a resolution to my necklace dilemma, I am now thinking of making my own rings out of Miss Roben's Animal Cracker mix (although they will not look as fun or enticing as the dreaded fruit loops!) Jen P.S. I think it would be so great if we all posted information we found when contacting companies! Jen
Guest guest
Jen, How about reconfirming GFCF status on the Necco Candy Necklaces, then cutting the string and using those candies instead of Fruit Loops? Here is a link for an online store that sells them for 75 cents each, in case you want to use this idea and have trouble finding them: www.goodysgeneralstore.com ===== __________________________________________________
