Guest guest
Improvement is sometimes gradual with ups and downs, especially in the beginning. Post what you are eating and people will make suggestions. Not everyone can tolerate all foods. Eggs are sometimes a problem. I could not tolerate carrots. It helps to cook and puree vegetable and fruits. Hang in there, PJ > > Was diagnosed with UC 9 years ago and rarely been in remission since. " Urgency is down " is results. This diet is slow healing - won't accomplish everything miraculously fast. It's not like western medicine's quick results mode, it takes time and patience. Are you on meds of any kind? Under a doctor's care? What are you eating - did you start with intro -or jump right in? For bleeding, you might try vitamin E enemas which can be very effective (I would suggest using a small sterilized scissor, not a pin, though, to open the capsules - much less time consuming and annoying): http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=67345 Is your name Nick? Guest guest
I am currently on no meds nothing has been affective except prednisone. Was recently on prednisone but didn't stay in remission as i tapered off. I have stuck to the basic diet of homemade yoghurt, hamburger, dry cottage cheese, homemade apple cider jello. Also made the chicken soup but didn't care for the taste so substituted with broiled chicken breast. Nick > > > Was diagnosed with UC 9 years ago and rarely been in remission since. Guest guest
The bone broth soups are very helpful. Cook the chicken and bones for several hours. You can take out the chicken, puree it, and make a nice thick soup. You can also puree the vegetables and put them back in. Beef (use soup bones) and fish soup (if you like it) is also good. Are you using the legal dry curd cottage cheese? (not regular cottage cheese) PJ > > > > > Was diagnosed with UC 9 years ago and rarely been in remission since. Guest guest
i've been on the diet 8 months and I'm in a flare right now just as bad as before the SCD diet. There's no time table for when it kicks in, it's different for everyone I think. However, if I would have gone strictly by the book and waited a month to see if It was effective or not, I would not be on the diet today. I do know that the only lengthy period of time i've been in remission (3 months or so) was while I was on SCD. I think the first year at least is very up and down.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: BTVC-SCD From: nicklf80@...Date: Mon, 8 Feb 2010 02:34:28 +0000Subject: How long before SCD kicks in... Guest guest
Nick,That is good progress that urgency is reduced. I can understand the frustration that the frequency and bleeding aren't resolving. My husband was the same way. You are most likely experiencing die-off, which is why someone else suggested the epsom salt baths (2 cups in a warm tub of water up to your navel -- enjoy for about 15 minutes) http://www.epsomsaltcouncil.org/health_benefits.htm. It will help rid the body of toxins. When the bad bacteria dies off it can create even more pronounced symptoms. In light of this, it is really a good showing of progress that the urgency is improved. How much homemade yogurt are you eating? Elaine recommends no more than 3 cups a day, but she also recommends starting very slowly and working up. You are only on day five, if you started slowly -- i.e. 1 tsp a day for a couple of days then increasing if tolerated -- you should be eating very small amounts. Properly made yogurt is very powerful and can increase die-off considerably if eaten in large quantities too soon.Another thing to consider, prednisone will increase blood sugar levels which will feed bad bacteria and especially yeast. You need to keep an eye out for Candida (yeast) overgrowth symptoms since you were on prednisone for so long.I agree with PJ, the broth is incredibly important and very healing. Make sure you add salt to taste. I would actually not use any of the meat or veggies used to make the broth just now. Just sip the broth as you would tea. For me, chicken wings make the best broth -- small amount of meat and lots of bone. Try adding only about 2 cups of water and 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice) for each pound of chicken wings plus any veggies for flavor (like carrots, celery, parsley). Slow simmer (not boiling/bubbling, very little movement of the liquid) for 4+ hours. Then strain and season with salt and pepper to taste. It will have a slightly tangy, but pleasing taste and you will get loads of goodness from the chicken and the bones. When chilled, it should be like firm jello. Don't reheat in the microwave -- it alters the beneficial amino acids into a toxic/cancer causing form.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19 monthsLDN 3 mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Mon, February 8, 2010 2:34:28 AMSubject: How long before SCD kicks in...
