Guest guest
My case is very similar to yours. I had one ortho tell me that he recommended the surgery(lower advancement) and several other opinions that did not agree. I however elected to go with the surgery. I would have not had the surgery knowing what I know now. I think if you don't really need the surgery then It is probably better not to have it. So far I am pleased with the out come of my surgery at just 3 weeks but all the stress leading up to it and all that is involved is a bit much. I was just thinking today that I have been in braces for over 2.5 years and spent at least 6 months before that deciding just on the braces and which orthodontist to go with. Still have a long way to go. Had I not elected to do with surgery I would have been finished about 8 months ago with everything. I guess you could say I was on a mission once I started and would have not been satisfied not doing it. However, now even though I am doing ok, I would have just done braces and been done with it. Good decision for you. Good luck Sharon Hansen wrote: I just joined this group a few weeks ago after an orthodontist told me I needed lower jaw advancement in addition to orthodontia. I've had several more orthodontic consults since then and none of the other orthos agree with him. They have all said that my issues can be resolved with orthodontia alone and no surgery, and they all said that given the slight improvement surgery would make compared to the risks, they would not recommend it in my case. So I'm not going forward with surgery, just straightening. I'm very relieved. I just wanted to say that even though I'm now not going to be " one of you " , I really appreciated the information I got here and the kindness and support of the group members here. You guys are all great and I wish you wonderful success with your surgeries. God bless. Sharon ---------------------------------
