Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone on this site has heard of a medicine called Questran? My PCP was asking me about the side effects of DS and I mentioned the loose stools. She wanted me to ask if anyone on this site has tried Questran and if it helped? I'll be having my surgery on October 24th and I'm taking Xenical right now, which has similar side effects. They aren't awful but very annoying and inconvenient. It would be nice to find something that will help keep those problems to a minimum after the surgery. Thanks all! Guest guest
I was tried on Questran, but it didn't work for me.. I just had 'sandy " runs (sorry, guys). I have talked to others that Questran worked well for, but it didn't do a thing for me. My gastroenterologist put me on Symax-SR, & it has worked very well.. on " breakthrough " days, I use lomotil and Immodium. Tell her to consider trying anticholinergic drugs- often they help when other meds don't. Just tell her that from one who has been there, don't give up on the patient.. or blame the surgery.. refer to a gastroenterologist, but don't give up. Hope that helps, Hugs, Liane > I was wondering if anyone on this site has heard of a medicine called > Questran? My PCP was asking me about the side effects of DS and I > mentioned the loose stools. Guest guest
Hi Liane! Thanks for the suggestions. I won't know for about a month yet whether it's going to work for me or not (surgery date is 10/24) but my doctor is being very supportive and wants to make sure she can help me with anything I need postop. I'm glad you found something that works for you. Hugs back! Tracey in San Diego > > I was wondering if anyone on this site has heard of a medicine > called > > Questran? Guest guest
Many of us take 2-4 FiberCon tablets every day to handle the kind of oily and loose stool problems that you encounter with Xenical (the California Warrior Princess). it works. And, it is over-the-counter. --Steve At 7:32 PM +0000 10/1/01, snurfles@... wrote: >I was wondering if anyone on this site has heard of a medicine called >Questran? --
Guest guest
Questran is a cholestrol-lowering drug; it works by binding to bile acids (a precursor of cholesterol) in the intestines. It comes in powder form (and there are now pills marketed under the name " Cholestid " ), and it tastes like you're drinking sand. It *can* definitely cause constipation. If your cholesterol levels are normal, I think I'd be more likely to try Fibercon. Questran sucks. (Been there, done that...) alyssa

You and Steve and all the others who have so kindly responded! I'll try the FiberCon. Thanks! Tracey in San Diego
