Guest guest
, Welcome! You're now right where you can get the best help, no fighting here at all! Do you drive? Because I just mapquested Des Moines to Iowa City and it's 113 miles, less 35 so that makes it less than 85 miles which is probably less than an hour and a half drive. Don't know about you, but around here (Oregon) people drive that far round trip to work here in the city from other places so to me, it seems like you are very near Iowa City. You have no idea how lucky you are to be this close, parents have traveled from as far as Europe and South Africa to see Dr. Ponseti. You have a golden opportunity to have your child in the hands that are the master in this method, you simply can not go wrong by making this your greatest gift to your child... I hope some people will pipe up with testimonials about Dr. Ponseti and how much you will just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE him once you meet him. If I were in your shoes, I would get in my car, bus, hitchike... whatever it takes to go meet him even before your child is born. Watch him with his babies if possible (I'm sure he'll be happy to show you how he works) and you will see the love and caring he gives to the little ones. I know this sounds corny but it is said by every parent who meets him that his presence has filled them with comfort and a sense of caring for out sweet little babes like no other person in the world. Let alone a doctor. I really, really, really wish I was as close to him as you are because I want to hug and kiss him so much. I am really quite far away from Iowa, it wasn't necessary for us to go there although sometimes I secretly wish it was because I know I am missing out on meeting the wonderful man who made it possible for my daughter to have perfect little feet and to really never know she was born with any defect at all. You are indeed a fortunate mama. Now with that being said (I just had to, I'm almost jealous of your proximity to Iowa City... ok I am jealous!) if you still would like to pursue a physician nearer to you I would ask Dr. Ponseti himself about the physicians in Iowa. Email and contact him (phone is good, he often calls back himself) here: How to Contact Dr. Ponseti Ignacio Ponseti, M.D. Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Peer Review Status: Internally Peer Reviewed ---------- Telephone: (319)356-3469 Address: University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics 200 Hawkins Drive 010255 JPP Iowa City, IA 52242 Via E-mail: ignacio-ponseti@... Also, take a look at this website. It really will help you understand what will happen and why it works. Look at the videos, testimonials and also the information for physicians which will show you exactly how they correct the foot with this method. It is really eye opening to see how simple it really is if the right hands are performing the correction. http://www.uihealthcare.com/topics/medicaldepartments/orthopaedics/clubfeet/inde\ x.html OK, I'm going to send this before I too long winded with Papa Ponseti praises so you can email him or check out the website. Again, welcome to the list and I hope you enjoy the support and information you will receive from the wonderful and knowledgeable parents here. The wealth of knowledge from parents here has saved us all and given us such comfort through all this that you will certainly find what you need here. Many other parents found out via u/s prior to baby's birth. I had no idea!!! We lucked out by having a doc close enough and actually many other options within a 1500 mile radius (ok, not in the Pacific Ocean but there are great docs in Seattle and California we would be able to get to if needed) so there really was never a need to go to Iowa but I sure would in a heartbeat if I found a good enough reason! My daughter's feet are perfect. I simply cannot say enough about the good of all this... you probably already know that about me though lol! Big hugs and enjoy your pregnancy. This will be all over before you know it! Kori Darbi's Mama At 09:32 AM 2/17/2006, you wrote: >Hello all, I was wondering if someone might be able to recomend a >doctor for me in my area. Guest guest
Hey , welcome aboard! We drive right through Des Moines on our way to Iowa City from Oklahoma. Honey, if you're that darn close to IC, I can't recommend anything less than going there!!! I've had 2 sons treated there by Dr. P and Staff, and when #3 is born (any time between now and March) - we'll be headed out again to one place or another to get his feet fixed too. Considering going to St. Louis, but dh wants to go directly to Iowa City...anyway, from your location it's just a stone's throw and worth every inch of highway you gotta drive. shawnee Re: Hi, my name is and I'm expecting a son in May who has club foot , Welcome! Guest guest
, Congratulations on your upcoming birth! I can't reiterate enough what others have said...If you have a means to get there, please go straight to Iowa City. After 10 months of switching between 4 local doctors, we ended up driving 1300 miles from Florida to Iowa City. It was the best decision that we ever made. We will even continue to go back (flying now) for follow ups. Dr. Ponseti is a wonderful man. I still cry at the thought of wishing that we had known about him from day one. Being at the Ponseti Clubfoot Center at the University of Iowa is like Disneyland for Clubbed Feet! Everything is catered to our kids! There is a Mc House on campus that you can stay in for $15.00 a night. When we were there, most of the rooms were from people from all over Iowa. We were the 'outsiders' from out of state. There are wonderful doctors out there, but the good ones have all been trained under Dr. Ponseti...Being so close, I would definately say go straight to the source! You won't ever regret it! Good luck! Guest guest
Hi , glad to see you made it over here. I just posted this to you on the club_foot group but I'll put it here too: , There are no physicians on the list of qualified Ponseti method docs in Des Moines. In case you are wondering what a doctor has to do to get on the list -- all they have to do is submit case studies showing that they are using the method very successfully. But anyway, I just heard from Dr. Morcuende at the University of Iowa that there are 2 pediatric orthopaedic surgeons in Des Moines who are having success with the method. Here's what he said: ----------- " I am sorry to say but there are no " certified " doctors in Des Moines. There are 2 peds ortho working there and they do a good job, but we have seen some of their cases and still have some technical difficulties. If fiances are a problem, they can try, and if they do not get corrected, before thinking about surgery, to come here. The problem is that most of these become atypicals and are more difficult to treat. If travelling is an issue, they could consider for mom to come and stay at the Mc house. If we change the cast every 4-5 days, it should be corrected in 18-20 days. We could also help them with the cost of the clinic visits. thank you for your support. jose morcuende " I emailed him again to see if he could give me the names of the docs in Des Moines, I'll let you know what he says. , I don't know, if it were me, I would probably make the trip to Iowa City just to be sure it was being done right. How far are you from there? I know long distance travel seems daunting, but like Dr. Morcuende said, there are things that can be done to help. Whatever you decide, just remember that Iowa City is a hop skip and a jump away if you need them. And we're here too, to help you along the way. All my best, Mom to Jenna (4/7/01) & Sammy (9/25/04, RCF, Dobbs' brace, 14hrs/day) > > Hello all, I was wondering if someone might be able to recomend a > doctor for me in my area. Guest guest
I'm having a boy around the 15 of May. His name is Phoenix. Thanks for the info wrote: Hi , Welcome! Guest guest
Hello , Welcome to the site and congrats on your baby boy. This site is wonderful and you'll find it a great resource. Everyone has already pointed you in the right direction. I just wanted to extend the same warm welcome that I received when I joined the group. It's a blessing that you have time to research before the birth of your son. It's just as much a blessing that you've discovered the Ponseti method. My daughter is now 6 weeks old and was born with bilateral clubfoot. We didn't know she had clubfeet until the day she was born. So, it took me about 5 weeks before I started with the Ponseti casts. Had I started from her birth she would have been on her last cast right now. But, we started with different casting with a doctor that said we have to cast for 3 full months! Thank goodness for this site, the reassuring words of other parents and the referrals I received from them to the Ponseti certified doctor we are now with. Good luck with everything. mommy to -J'nee born 01.07.06, bcf > > Hello all, I was wondering if someone might be able to recomend a > doctor for me in my area.
