Guest guest
Hi, I am new to this site, let me introduce myself. I am post op lap RNY, 3-28-01 and weigh in now between 138-143 which I am very pleased with. I am two years post op and have been training for the 2003 Triathlon season (swim, bike, run) since last fall. However, I am severly hypoglycemic and I struggle with my blood sugar when competing. During a work out I am able to stop and refuel as needed but in competition, it is far more difficult. I have yet to meet another post op bariatric patient in the triathlon arena and thought I would pose my question here. An olympic distance race takes me about 5 hours to finish, so I am burning energy for a sustained period of time. Has anyone take up endurance sports since surgery and successfully maintained their sugar level, hydration, and nutrition immediately before, during and for about a week after competition? Please e-mail me if you have any suggestions. Thanks for your thoughts, Sue
Guest guest
Fwd to list! Re: endurance training Open RNY 02-21-02. 5 " 9 " 170 LBS down from 298 LBS. Work physically, scuba dive and downhill ski several days per week over the past winter. I maintain good labs and energy by protien supplements and vitamins. I generally take protien 30gr 4-5x perday. On active days I use 30gr 5-8x and eat nuts as a source of both carb fuel and protien. Nuts are a great source of fuel for hypoglycimics because you get the carb energy without the sugars. I am curently not endurance training but am very intrested in starting. Please contact me off the boards! krissy
