Guest guest
It sounds like she is just getting used to it. My daughter got her starband at 5 mo. She was big and strong and started sitting 2 weeks later, then walking before she graduated at 10 mo, so no delays or regression. I didn't notice that is really bothered her to wear it, but it is extra weight on the head. My daughter was never a great sleeper and we coslept. I tried the crib, but it just didn't work for us, since no one got enough sleep that way. However most babies do go back to their normal sleeping routine within a week or two. -christine sydney, 3 yrs, starband grad > > Hi, > My daughter just started in her Starband last Thursday...today was the first full day of wear. She seems to be adjusting fine, except when she is on her back she seems to get upset (this includes when she is sleeping) i dont think she is in pain....i think she is just having a hard time turning her head from side to side bc the the starband is a little big (they say everyones starts out a little big) and also bc it is a new feeling on the back of her neck? i was wondering if anyone else noticed this in the beginning? i am assuming they just get used to the feeling and everything goes back to normal for them sleeping on the back and playing on the gym mat... > > my other question is neck strength. My daughter just turned 5 months yesterday...she is basically sitting up on her own (has been able to hold her head up very well for a long time) and she can do tummy time for a while-and holds her head up high and almost push all of her belly off the ground. since we started the star band...she is having a hard time with tummy time (she can do it but not for as long and cant hold her head up as high) and when she sits on her tush on the ground or her bumbo she is still holding her head up but not as well as she used to...is this just because its her first few days of breaking in and wearing (today was full day) and once she gets adjusted she will be able to do the tummy time like she was before the starband and hold her head up better? > > I am assuming the answer is yes-bc i didnt read on here at all about any moms or dads being upset that their baby was regressing in milestones bc of the starband...but i figured i would ask sorry this was such a long email! i guess i had a lot of questions > > thanks for your time! > Carly > > > >
Guest guest
Luke has been in his STARband since last Thursday. I had posted about fit issues before and his ortho has helped with it a little bit but it keeps rotating to the left (he has severe brachy and mild plagio). My questions are: The right side of the band shifts and keeps scrunching up his ear and all the skin around his right eye when he is awake and looks to the right. Is that normal? I am worried that it will cause some deformity around his brow line and eye socket. I know that the band will fit better when he grows...however, will it be have caused some other issues by then? I'm guessing it will take about a month for the rotation to get better?? ( in 3 more weeks for him). I brought this up to his ortho yesterday and he said I have to be diligent and keep positioning the band in place when it shifts. But I am doing that ALL the time. I can't imagine that is good. I'm sorry to sound so desperate. I see the improvement in his brachy, but I'd rather have a flatter head instead of causing some other facial issues. My husband and I are considering getting a DOC band, but I think we should wait at least a month before doing that to see if anything changes with our STARband. I am going to post a pic of the band and how it shifts under L babies: Luke Thank you!
Guest guest
Hi , my daugther had very mild plagio, and brachy. Her band really didn't slip much. I would keep my eye on it, and see if it is improving after a little growth. Scrunching eyes is pretty normal, and doesn't usually cause a problem. However, I don't know why it is shifting so much that you have to be " diligent " . My daughter's tended to be slightly loose after an adjustment, but didn't rotate. Also it got tighter pretty quickly ( a week or two). I wonder if the band is just too big? My daughter's held her head at the widest point (the side, just over and slightly behind her ears). This area was always red when we removed the band, but not irritated, and faded quickly. If the band hadn't held her growth there, her head would have continued to grow wider - which is not what you want with brachy. Is there someone who can give you a second opinion on the fit? -christine sydney, 3 yrs, starband grad > > Luke has been in his STARband since last Thursday. Guest guest
Hi , I am going to look and see if I can get a second opinion...thanks for the idea. I do think the band is too big. I put a small piece of moleskin right behind his ear and it held the band better. But I don't want to leave the moleskin there because I don't want there to be an indention there. Luk'es head measured the same width and length, so there wasn't any wider part. There aren't any red spots at all. I think we are going to wait another week or so and hopefully it will get tighter as he grows. I can't believe how much of an improvement there has been already! Thanks again. > > > > Luke has been in his STARband since last Thursday.
