Investigation after the fact showed some sort of hereditary thing (I cannot tell you the name, but perhaps someone on the list knows), and all his sibs and kids decided to get themselves checked out. Only his son was not at risk for the same thing. Both sisters and his daughter were found to have this problem as well, sky-high cholesterol--and they were all pretty healthy eaters. I recall the daughter in particular, who is a physical therapist, was totally physically fit and quite thin and trim. Yet even with stringent alterations in her diet, she was not able to significantly bring down her cholesterol and had to go on medication to control it. At that time (about 20 years ago) I do not recall there being any scuttlebutt, tho, going around about flaxseed meal. Perhaps a regimen including that would have helped.
