Guest guest
Darlene, It's interesting, but I have nothing to say about it, really. I am allergic to soy products (the proteins, in particular) and will never use them, so it doesn't apply to me at all. I do take my calcium citrate with magnesium, vitamin D, and boron, participate in daily weight-bearing exercise, and as far as I can see, that's all I can do. DEXA-scans so far say that I'm doing it right, for me. :-) By the way, this guy isn't SELLING isoflavones, is he? That always makes me suspicious. Not to mention that I've read elsewhere that isoflavones can increase the growth of estrogen-sensitive cancers. I don't think there's a magic bullet anywhere that can prevent osteoporosis without some side effect. But it's worth it to keep looking. Needless to say, not one person has responded. This article is very informative and I was hoping to get some comments. The article is on Overcoming Low Bone Mass and it can be found at this website... http://www.journaloflongevity.com/JOLWeb/96/bonemass.html Thanks in advance Darlene (Central CA) 8/26/
Guest guest
Not news to me- I found out about boron and soy from some very, very smart people about a year ago (thanks Sue and ) and my calc. supplements have 'em both in there! And I choose to continue with hormone replacement- don't like the symptoms without it. I weighed the pros and cons and decided to stick with HRT. I do weight training (well, I will again as soon as I get rid of the Charcot foot, I hope), I supplement my calc. with all the good stuff and I have dexa scans yearly and try to keep abreast of the information concerning bones and bone loss. Is this the type of comments that you were looking for? Guest guest
Well, I started taking soy about a 1 1/2 years ago when I started getting major hot flashes. It stopped them cold within a couple of weeks. My OB/GYN wanted me to take black cohosh, so I stopped the soy and gave it a try...can you say dripping sweats? So, dropped that & back on the soy...back to normal. I dump the soy capsule into my AM protein shake along with my capsules of citrate/boron/mag/D, and have done that for a year. My results? Well, last year's dexa showed mild osteopenia, next one is in June, so we'll see. But, my teeth are the healthiest they've ever been. In fact, due to gum disease, I had been losing bone for quite some time. I had lots of pockets that were 5's (you know, when they measure depth). Well, as of my cleaning last week, I have NO 5's anymore...in fact, nothing higher than a 3. Now, I have been very good about flossing, too, so who knows why, but I sure am happy about it. I don't know if there's any correlation with what's written in the article, but that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it. in NJ ********************* > I don't want to start a revolution with this, but I posted a copy of this article to the protein list and asked for thoughts from those members.
