Guest guest
Hun, When I thought of the statistics, I thought to myself.... how many in 200 dies from complications due to obesity? And I came to the conclusion that a great deal more than 1 in 200 die from heart failure, high blood pressure and the sort.... I would suspect that there would even be a high rate of suicide or attempts due to depression from being morbidly obese. (I know that I, for one, would be in those stats) From that, I decided that it was a small risk to what I would be gaining.... MY LIFE! I am like walking dead now and I am so anxious to get the life I was born to have. I am fully aware that any surgery holds risks but thousands of people go under the knife every day........ how many of those could be avoided if the people were thinner and healthy? Read the posts on the list, even those who have had rough spots in the journey say that it is all worth it and that they would do it again! The success stories are so moving, they, (plus knowledge) removed my fear of this surgery. I am so anxious to be approved, I am about to crawl out of my skin. I hope you find peace in your research and that you will consider this for you and for your family. To have a full and rich life with more energy and health.... is it worth the risks? Only you can answer that for yourself. ICE -- I AM SCARED I ATTENDED MY SEMINAR YESTERDAY AND WAS SCARED BY THE STATISTICS 1-200 DIE??? 70% DEVELOP ULCERS, AND MANY OTHER THINGS... Guest guest
I agree completely Ice. I think if we looked at the statistics of ALL surgeries, there would be lots of bad complications as well. I can't wait until my surgery. I have never been so tired and don't want to do anything. I am looking forward to having more energy and living instead of just existing. Guest guest
Believe me, you are not alone on this one. I took me 18 months to commit to the surgery. One of the mental strains on me was the 1 in 200 deaths. As I spoke to my surgeon, who I have absolute trust in, he wanted me to understand the risks and possible dangers. But one underlying factor generally appeared in each of the death cases we discussed, there were usually other complicating factors. Anytime we are under anthesia, we are at the mercy of the anethesiologist(sp?) and the surgeon, whether it is for WLS, Cardiac, or hip replacement. As has been said in the prior replies, its a choice we all have had to face and one not to be taken lightly. Have your affairs in order, then relax, your life is about to be changed forever and you will begin to live life as it was intended for you, with Joy. May peace be with you in your decision and happiness reign in your heart. -Ray > I ATTENDED MY SEMINAR YESTERDAY AND WAS SCARED BY THE STATISTICS > 1-200 DIE??? 70% DEVELOP ULCERS, AND MANY OTHER THINGS... > WELL I AM 54 YEARS OLD 5'6'' AND 316 LBS.... > SO I AM BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE...SEEMS DARNED IF I DO > AND DARNED IF I DON'T. > PLZ ADVISE OR CONSOLE...ANYONE!!!! Guest guest
Hi there, I was scared too, thinking I wasn't going to come out of it alive and plus, I never had any kind of surgery what so ever performed on me. I wasn't sure if I would just be put out and never come out of it. But, I had my surgery on November 11, 2003 and I came out of it fine (of course or I would not be writing this, duh) I have lost 100 lbs so far and I feel great!!!! I had high Blood Pressure, which is gone now, I had High Cholestrol, (235 before S, 99 now)and I was on meds for both and now I am off of all my meds before surgery. I was even on Paxil for depression and now I am not depressed anymore so I am off of that stuff too. What I am trying to say is that, like the other replies, I had gotten my life back and I would do it all over again if I could, but way sooner. I hope this helps, good luck and God bless!
