Hey! I know what you are going through! My son was a term baby but I

think the casts and bar slowed him down. He cruised for a long time

and seemed very uniterested in trying to go any further. But ONE

DAY... he took 3 steps and sat down. I only saw it out of the corner

of my eye and wasn't sure if I saw right. He got up and did it

again! He was 16 months old then. He is 18 months now and is all

over the place.I really don't think you have anything to worry

about. ONE DAY he will decide he is ready to try it. If you are

trying to help him along i.e. holding his hands while he

walks, calling him to you, might I suggest stopping for a week or so.

It may get him motivated to try it on his own.

still. I'm beginning to worry. He's been cruising around furniture

and walking behind a scooter and holding fingers for as long as I

can remember. However, as soon as I let go he sits down.

walk him through the grass he picks up both feet equally.

My daughter , didn't start walking until about 15 months, and my neighbor's

boys didn't start until past 16 months. In my daughter's case, who doesn't have

clubfeet, she was able to get everywhere a lot faster by crawling. Same with

the neighbors. Once all of them did start walking, they were running.

Apparently, walking didn't get them where they needed to go fast enough. None

of them had any medical problems that would cause late walking. As long as the

pediatrician doesn't see a problem, I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

Besides, once they start walking, you spend a lot of time just trying to get

them to sit down. I do understand your worry though, and I'm sure I'll get

worried when it's time for Maddie to be walking.

We noticed the same very wide turnout with one of Zeke's feet when

he was cruising but not walking on his own yet. We happened to have

a checkup w/Dr. Ponseti during that time, and when he saw Zeke

cruise, he had the ortho change the angle of the shoe for the foot

which was turning out farther down to 60 degrees (not turned out as

much). I don't know if this is pure coincidence, but within days

Zeke was taking steps on his own and that foot didn't look so turned

out.

Hello .

Please try not to worry too much. was 15 months when she started

walking. I have heard others on this board whose babies weren't walking until

19 months, 20 months, or even later. Aidan will let go when he is ready.

Hang in there!

You certainly got plenty of responses but I wanted to let you know

that we too have a late walker. Our little guy also at 16

months does exactly as Aidan-the minute he doesn't have the support,

he sits down. His little face is sooo determined though-I can see

the wheels working in his brain-he just doesn't feel comfortable as

yet to let go. We are trying to make it a game of it for the " let

go " part to get him more comfortable. His PT and Ped are not too

concerned-they said they would be at 18 months(LOL-how 2 months

really makes that much of a difference). My only consolation is his

2 classmates who are just now walking independently and have finally

graduated to his classroom(out of the infant room)-both have no

known physical issues and are the same age as our . I figure he

will walk in his own time(although dh is more anxious than I).

was given smo's to wear during the day to help his stability-he is

soo loose ligamented that he has no ankle support-and we have really

seen a difference.Hang in there-I know how you feel!!

Boy do I know how you feel! My daughter did not walk till she was15months and it

seemed like forever! She was just too scared to let go and fall. She would

cruise also but not let go. Seems like I asked everyone I knew including her ped

and Dr. Ponseti himself if this was normal. But, like everyone else has said I

think 18months is when you start to worry and even if they are older than

18months it's still ok.

All I have to say is enjoy this time b/c if your son turns out to be like my

daughter OMG! My son was not like this! She is into everything and climbs

everything, she is nonstop all day! But then again it is so nice to see how far

she has come. Try not to worry and enjoy this time before you have to put your

running shoes on to chase after him!

I have not posted in a while, how is he doing with his other issues? I get

everyone mixed up on her so if I am confusing you with someone else, sorry. Your

the mommy that lives her in Tx, right? And Aidan is the one with the BIG blue

beautiful eyes, right? Hope all is well with him. Take care,

and

Hi ,

I know it's hard but please try not to worry. Audrey didn't walk until she

was 18 months...she was 5 weeks premature but I don't think that probably

played into it...she just did it when she was ready and so will Aidan. :)

I wanted to throw my two cents in here too. As difficult as it is, don't

worry just yet! I have seen posts from many other people that their

children didn't walk until 19, 20 even 23 months. Also, with Aidan being a

preemie, is he almost 17 months with the adjustment?

Jen,

It really sounds like just a case of him not being interested in

walking yet. My son just turned 15 months and just started walking

one day, like you said he'd been cruising and walking with toys for a

long time and then finally just started doing it. I know it seems

like forever but since he was pre-mature I would definitely say he is

still well w/in the normal range. What you mention about the way his

right foot is not turned out and the dragging the foot is what

concerns me -- I would go with your mommy instinct and get it checked

out. Also, do you notice this more with or without shoes? I really

noticed Sammy walking funny when he had shoes on when he first started

cruising/walking, kind of stepping awkwardly with his clubfoot.

His adjusted age is really about 14 months. However, I think he's pretty much

caught up. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. Of course, every

little delay Aidan has which hasn't been many, I think it's a product of his

initial bleeds. But you're right, he'll do it when he's ready.
