Guest guest
Hi Chanda- I'm sorry to jump in here, but I just wanted to urge you to definitely pursue PT for the tort. I have never heard of a ped blowing it off like that before. There's no saying for sure he will grow out of it and there are definite long term effects from untreated tort. You can check out the tort group at Torticolliskids/. I've read of older kids who had to have release surgery (where they cut the muscle to relieve the tension), and kids who run awkwardly because of untreated or uncorrected tort. Granted, some of those cases are obviously more severe than others, and hopefully your son's case is very mild, but I think your ped really should take it more seriously. Also, you can call your Cranial Tech and ask them about it as well. They have physical and occupational therapy backgrounds and I've heard of them assessing tort and showing patients exercises to do at home. Or they could just recommend a pediatric therapist in your area. Good luck! Jake-2 (tort resolved/rt plagio/DOCBand #2 3 more days!!!) We just finished our 5 months of the cranial helmet and he is done! So happy - it worked great. We fixed his plagio 90%. We went to PT starting at 5 months for about 6-7 weeks I think it was. He really got better and the PT shows you so much that you can do at home and continue to do after you are done with PT. A lot got better and he became so strong sitting up. > > I am starting to see that he may be lacking in some things now - he is 10 months - he is not doing some things that he should be so I asked the doctor about it and she said PT would probably not be covered just for gross motor delay so to use our county based program called Early On. So I called yesterday and they come to my home in about 2 weeks. So if they say he is fine, just a little behind in gross motor, I will feel better. If they say, yep he should be crawling, he should be able to sit himslef up from a lying position, he should be able to pull up on things better than he does, he shouldn't be slouching (leaning) in his high chair - then we can move forward with strengthening. I believe he just isn't as strong as he should be. But he is so smart and he does walk while we hold his hands....so those things make us comfortable that the other stuff, just needs a little work. > > Hopefully this helped. If anyone else is out there with a kid-o with Tort, did you see a delay in gross motor skills later in the game? (Meaning he had PT when he was 5-6 months and now he is 10 months and lagging behind a little with gross motor.) > > This is really the greatest blog ever! > > >
