I am on Procarin a Trans dermal patch that is a research drug for MS made up

of mostly Histamine and caffiene. What can be done about this, as we with MS

do not produce enough Histamine to effectively have our cells repair and

work they way they should. It also aids in being able to sleep.

Love and Hugs to all

I love to pull stuff apart so here goes. Thank god for the internet

where we can find the truth!

1. This letter was written by a (Watershed)you guessed it water

company. Somehow this does not seem impartial to me.

The link below is to this company and it's not so impartial articles:

2.) To deal with statements 1 and 2 I offer the following:

There may even be some surprising news about the hydrating effects

of caffeine-containing beverages. Research published in the

European Journal of Epidemiology (15:181-188, 1999) estimated the

diuretic effects of various beverages. The study estimated that for

every caffeinated beverage consumed, urinary output is increased by

1.17 milliliters per milligram of caffeine. In other words, a 12-ounce

beverage containing 31 milligrams of caffeine would result in the

excretion of just 1 ounce more in the urine than would normally

occur. The bottom line of this study is that the dehydrating effects

of caffeine may have been overstated in the past. It is important to

note that the research calculations were done using a study conducted

with caffeine-na‹ve individuals (i.e., those who do not consume

caffeine or who had abstained from consuming caffeine before the

study). Urinary output would be expected to be less in those who

regularly consume caffeine.

> 1. Soft drinks steal water from the body. They work very much like

a diuretic which takes away more water than it provides to the body.

Just to process the high levels of sugar in soft drinks steals a

considerable amount of water from the body. To replace the water

stolen by soft drinks, you needto drink 8-12 glasses of water for

every one glass of soft drinks

that you consume

> 2. Soft Drinks never quench your thirst, certainly not your body's

need for water. Constantly denying your body an adequate amount can

lead to Chronic Cellular Dehydration, a condition that weakens your

body at the cellular level. This, in turn, can lead to a weakened

immune system and a plethora of diseases.

Statement 3

Phosphorus, along with calcium, is an important mineral and is

essential for calcification of bones (85% of body phosphorus is

located in the skeleton). It has been said for many years that the

phosphorus in carbonated drinks was a contributing factor to

osteoporosis. However, this theory has not held up under scientific

scrutiny. The theory stated that dietary phosphorus interfered with

the body's calcium-phosphorus balance. However, the National

Institutes of Health concluded that the American diet contains high

amounts of sodium and protein, both of which can significantly

increase calcium loss, while other dietary components, including

fat, phosphate and caffeine, do not significantly affect calcium loss

or status. Exercising and eating foods high in calcium are still the

best ways to avoid the debilitating effects of osteoporosis.

> 3. The elevated levels of phosphates in soft drinks leach vital

minerals from your body. Soft Drinks are made with purified water that

also leach vital minerals from your body. A severe lack of minerals

can lead to Heart Disease (lack of magnesium), Osteoporosis (lack of

calcium) and many other diseases. Most vitamins can not perform their

function in the body without the presence of minerals.

I will not comment except to say that I can think of something else

that will remove a certain amount of rust from a car bumper and it

starts with a " W " and ends with a " R " .

> 4. Soft Drinks can remove rust from a car bumper or other metal

surfaces. Imagine what it's doing to your digestive tract as well as

the rest of your body.

Lets get real here. I think that there are very few of us out there

who would drink any beverage with sugar in let alone a soda. I have

not had a regular soda since nutrasweet was introduced. But I have

about 3 diet cokes a week. I can't drink a whole can of coke only

about half. And I really don't think that an occassional half can of

even regular coke could cause that much harm.

> 5. The high amounts of sugar in Soft Drinks causes your pancreas to

produce an abundance of insulin, which leads to a " sugar crash " .

Chronic elevation and depletion of sugar and insulin can lead to

diabetes and other imbalance related diseases. This is particularly

disruptive to growing children which can lead to life-long health

problems.

Nothing stays in my ds body for longer than 24 hours. Food can

consider itself lucky if it stays in for more than 12 hours. Caffeine

does interfere with Calcium absorption so you have to monitor your

caffeine intake.

> 6. Soft Drinks severely interfere with digestion. Caffeine and high

amounts of sugar virtually shut down the digestive process. That means

your body is essentially taking in NO nutrients from the food you may

have just eaten, even that eaten hours earlier. Consumed with

french-fries which can take WEEKS to digest, there is arguably nothing

worse a person can put in their body.

Nutrasweet attacks really steam me up. I offer the following and not

to many people bother to argue with the FDA.

Aspartame (AS-pahr-tame ) — This substitute was first approved in 1981

for use as a tabletop sweetener and in powdered mixes. Approval was

expanded in 1996 for use in other foods and beverages. Aspartame

(NutraSweet, Equal) is often the subject of stories in the popular

press and on the Internet claiming that the product causes a variety

of health problems, including (among others) headaches, tumors,

seizures, panic attacks, hyperactivity and multiple sclerosis.

However, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)reviewed 600 health

complaints against aspartame and concluded that it does not cause such

health problems. In addition, the FDA and the American Medical

Association have concluded that aspartame is safe for the general

population, all ages.Aspartame is not safe, though, for people who

have the rare hereditary disease phenylketonuria(

fen-ul-ke-to-NU-re-uh), or PKU. Products made with aspartame must

carry a PKU warning on the label

> 7. Diet soft drinks contain Aspartame, which has been linked to

depression, insomnia, neurological disease and a plethora of other

illness. The FDA has received more than 10,000 consumer complaints

about Aspartame that's 80% of all complaints about food additives.

One of the most common problems that the elderly face is severe

dehydration. Dehydration will cause a concentration of metals and

minerals in anyone's brain. Second, anyone who has ever seen a nursing

home kitchen knows that 50% of the food comes from aluminum cans.

Alzheimer patients more than any other segment of the elderly

population are placed into nursing facilities because in the later

stages of the disease they require 24 care and monitoring.I believe

that soft drinks

> 8. Soft Drinks are EXTREMELY acidic, so much so that they can eat

through the liner of an aluminum can and leach aluminum from the can

if it sits on the shelf too long. Alzheimer patients who have been

autopsied ALL have high levels of aluminum in their brains. Heavy

metals in the body can lead to many neurological and other diseases.

>

> 9. Soft Drinks are EXTREMELY acidic: The human body naturally

exists at a

> pH of about 7.0. Soft Drinks have a pH of about 2.5, which means you

are

> putting something into your body that is hundred of thousands of

times more

environment. Soft

Anyone who has ever had a bad stomach flu or cold knows that nothing

settles your stomach and is easier to get down than flat gingerale.

You could get the same effects by injesting ginger but anyone who has

an upset stomach really wouldn't want to look at a ginger root they

aren't terribly attractive.

> 10. Soft Drinks are the WORSE THING you can possibly put in your

body.

> Don't even think of taking a sip of a Soft Drink when you are sick

with a

for your

What can we learn from this? That the best way to find out about

potential hazards and health issues from food and beverages is to

consult the experts who spend millions of dollars of our tax money to

make sure that we injest high quality food and that even if we make

bad food choices we have the scientific evidence that it is bad for

uus. I am including some links to non-biased food information sites
