Guest guest
It's in the design of the shoe. I don't know exactly why, but the way the foot looks inside the PM's is different than the Markells. In the Markells, the heel should be right down there in the bottom. I think it has to do with the size of the heel pocket in the PM's most likely, I think it's just a bit deeper and that's why the heel doesn't sit flat. Over time, as with all feet regardless of what shoe they wear the heel forms and drops and starts to look normal. With an atypical foot, part of the deformity does come out of casts not entirely corrected. These shoes were originally designed for these kinds of feet. The center strap corrects the cavus deformity with the atypical feet. So while the shoes do not correct, this is true... in this particular case they do finish the correction. With regular cf, it's a non issue as the cavus is corrected in the casts. Kori At 09:29 AM 1/15/2006, you wrote: >Hello everyone! Guest guest
Hi I don't know if it was my post you read about the s and our son not being fully corrected when he went into them, but let me try to explain further. When Ethan went into his s he didn't have full dorsiflexion. He'd already had one tenotomy and our consultant explained that his tendon was a bit tighter than they would have liked. I don't actually know how far off 'full' it was I just was told by our doctor (very highly recommended Ponseti certified doctor inthe UK) that his feet would continue to correct as he moved around using the boots adn Ponseti brace and that the movement of his ankles would help to improve his dorsiflexion for up to the next 6 weeks. Sure enough by our next check up 4 weeks later it was very obvious that his heel had come down further in his shoes and we were told that he had the full range of movement in his feet and they were 'fully corrected'. As for your question about the bar. The s are used with the Ponseti bar. Ours is fully adjustable with a central part which you loosen, slide the bar out to the correct width and then tighten up the middle again. The part in the middle is black plastic with the name Ponseti on it. Hope this helps to clear up a few of your questions Kathy and Ethan (s 20/24) --- volng8r1 wrote: --------------------------------- Hello everyone! We had the Markells before and had a horrible time trying to get him to stay in them because his feet weren't corrected properly. Now I hear with the s that it'll take a while to get the heels down in the shoes. I think one post even said until they properly correct themselves. But I thought the feet were supposed to be totally corrected before the FAB and the FAB just held the feet in correction? I'm really confused. Can someone please explain this to me? After coming this far and finally getting to see Dr. Ponseti I don't want to screw anything up! Also- are the s used on the same bar as the Markells, or is it a different one? We had the gold bar, but it was set up wrong.... Thanks! Jenn
Guest guest
Thanks Kathy- I was a little concerned reading that after the horror we just went through with the Markells. I guess I thought the only difference between them and the s was how they went on. I'm just glad I read this and the other posts about the heel not being down before we got his! I probably would have freaked out. Jenn > > > --------------------------------- > Hello everyone!
