Guest guest
Well, Here it is wednesday already 2 days post op surgery on Monday. I had lower advancement of around 7mm and sub-apical to close spaces where teeth were extracted. Everything seems to have gone really well. I meet with my surgeon tomorrow so he can check everything out. My surgery was 4 hours long and I did not have a catheter. I have a splint on my lower teeth and 2 rubberbands. I can eat with a spoon, talk and drink out of a cup. I am so glad I am not wired. Spent the night in the hospital and checked out around noon tuesday. I am on percocet, antibiotics and steroids. My face is pretty swollen but not as bad as I thought it would be. My lower lip and chin is very very numb. Although that seems to be the only area that is. I hope it returns to normal. I had breathing tube in one nostral and another tube in other nostral for clearing out my stomach. Both were taken out before I woke up. I know they were giving me Morphine shots in the hospital..that made things kinda nice. I don't think anyone could have been more stressed about this whole thing more than I was but I have to say it has not been that bad. If you are having surgery soon don't sweat it. Everything will be just fine. I plan on posting pics soon. thanks again for everyones support. I really don't think I would have followed through with this if it were not for all positive words and kind people I have met on this site. I did puchase a new recliner the day before surgery and I love sleeping in it. I will post more as my recovery progresses. Feel free to write if anyone has any questions. I will be more than happy to answer what I can.
Guest guest
Congratulations on being on the other side now! I've been following your posts. I'm having upper/lower/palate on the 17th so your post helps to calm my nerves a bit. > > Well, Here it is wednesday already 2 days post op surgery on Monday. > I had lower advancement of around 7mm and sub-apical to close spaces > where teeth were extracted. Guest guest
Wow it's great to hear that it's going ok. I hope you don't mind a bunch of questions!! I bet you are glad after the stress of thinking about it constantly. Are you glad you went through with it and can you see any difference yet? Do you think at about day three now that the swelling has reached it's peak. With the bands do you think you could talk at all and are the bands obvious to someone else, can they be easily seen? Can you feel the screws and plates? I wish I was at your stage. I am seeing my ortho again on Monday for an adjustment and I am going to see if he has any timeframe for my surgery. I just want it done. Another thing, do you think you could have gotten yourself home on your own, for eg in a taxi or did you really need someone to assist you. I would really like to do all of this on my own if possible I think. Keep improving!! dwilzen wrote: Suprisingly there is very little pain. I am taking percocet but could probably live without it. Sleeping is not an issue, I would make sure you have something comfortable to sleep in though. I bought a new recliner. They recommend keeping your head elevated on one or two pillows. The recliner is making things alot easier. As a matter of fact I just woke up about 15 minutes ago from sleeping for around 5 hours. My mouth feels pretty weird in that it is so swollen mainly around my lower lip, chin area. The spoon is awkward to use but I am managing, I ate a little oatmeal earlier and some soup before that. I bought the zip-n-squeeze bags and those are very helpful. It is just very slow going with the spoon. I think I can drink stuff easier through the zip n squeeze. I don't really feel all that bad just a little uncomfortable with the swelling. hopefully things will get better soon. I myself am now in that calm stage after panic even though it's still about 4 or 5 months away. Does it hurt at all? Are you having trouble sleeping? Does it feel weird or sore to try and move your mouth to use a spoon? Suzy DWILZEN wrote: Well, Here it is wednesday already 2 days post op surgery on Monday. Guest guest
Thanks, Don't mind the questions at all, glad to be of any help I can. I am very glad I went through with it. It has been such a stress over the past couple of years thinking about this. I am so glad I am on the other side. Absolutely I am glad I went through with it. So far it has not been bad at all. I cant really tell much about my appearance now since I am still swollen but My girlfriend tells me she can see a difference already. I have been taking pics and will post them soon. One thing my doc stressed was cleaning regularly. I have a toothbrush and a waterpik. He said make sure I clean my mouth regularly, About every 4 hours or so I will use a toothbrush the best I can and then the water pic. That is nice to have..they gave it to me at the hospital. I can only do so much with the toothbrush cause I can only open my mouth enough to fit the tooth brush in. I only think I have 2 bands on and they are in the front like where my eye bicuspids are. I can barely notice them especially since My bottom lip is swollen. I have a splint attached to my bottom teeth and there are teeth marks on the top of it that indicate where my top teeth should touch it. This is where my os wanted my bite to be and that was one of the first things he checked. I am trying not to talk to much even though I can. I want to give it a few days to heal in the position they put me in before i do to much. I cant really tell where the screws and plates are. I will ask him tomorrow when I go. I do have stitches on the outside of my cheeks where they placed the screws for the plates in the back of my mouth. But that does not seem like a big deal. He tells me I will never even know they were there. As far as getting along on my own. I think I could have gotten home ok on my own. I don't think they would have wanted me to though. They wheeled me down to my girlfriends car and I told them I would rather walk the rest of the way. I did fine. It does help to have someone there to help but I think I could get by on my own if I had too. I just took a shower and washed my hair and body with no problem. Actually I am getting kinda bored sitting around already. I like to keep moving and doing things. Hope this helps Vhurgo wrote: Wow it's great to hear that it's going ok. Guest guest
Welcome to the other side!! I remember how torn you were about having the surgery, I'm glad things went well.
