Food Accident AHHHH!

HI everyone! We are back from our mini vacation at Jersey Shore and

Great Adventure. On Sunday, n got ahold of 2 saltine crackers

on the beach. I could kick myself because first, I forgot to mention

to family members to please put away unsafe food when they were done.

Second, I was taking care of SIL's baby and not watching my own.

Here are the results: That evening n did ok on the boardwalk

for awhile and then started wandering off and not responding to his

name. On the drive home, n laughed histerically for no

apparent reason. He woke up verbally stimming alot at 6am even though

he didn't go to bed til 11:30pm. (He had had an afternoon nap) The

next day he started chewing items again more intensely then before.

He verbally stimmed alot. At dinner, he wouldn't eat much, he sat for

a short time and then became very restless, wouldn't play with the

toys I brought and wanted to wander around. This was my husband

birthday dinner and it turned into a disaster with me removing

n after he banged his head on the chair. Then my husband

gobbling his meal so he could meet me in the car and I could eat

mine. On Tues, n stayed home with my parents while we went to

Great Adventure with older boys and SIL's family. My parents told me

he chewed constantly on his blankie, and again verbal stimming alot!

Wed. morning he actually stripped off his shirt and shorts so he

could chew on both. We went back to Great Adventure with n on

Wed. and we were in Bugs Bunny land. He looked so Autistic I started

to cry. He started just going in circles up and down the playground

equipment ignoring his surrounding. When we tried to get him on a

ride he had a major fit because we had interupted his circling around

the playground. I will spare you all the rest of details but finally

we got him settled somewhat in stroller. We left Bug Bunny land and

went over to a flume ride and that got him! He loved it. It was like

the extreme sensory experience had snapped him out of it, not

completely but better. We were able to make a day out of it. Today

he is better but still doesn't seem himself.

Does any of this sound familiar to others who have experience food

accidents? Family members keep writing this off to " change, not his

own surroundings etc. YET, n has slept over his grandparents

house many many times, to the boardwalk several times this season

where his behavior was amazing, to restaurant with my husband where

he did much better then this occassion, he knows about rides from

boardwalk so Great Adventure shouldn't have been completely

unfamiliar either. One family member even came out and said, " I don't

believe just a couple of crackers could do that. "

So what do you think? From others who have experienced this, how much

longer do you think I will see the effects. Or am I just making

something out of nothing.

Debbie
