Guest guest
How refreshing to hear a doctor perscribe the gradual reduction of brace time in accordance with Dr. Ponseti's method!! Yes this is what Dr. Ponseti recommends, the gradual reduction of hours =). Many parents have gone from 23/7 wear right to 'night and nap' time wear only to encounter big time resistance by their little ones when trying to get them to wear the brace at all. A gradual reduction seems to work best. You can check in the global health booklet located in the files section for the specific hours that Dr. Ponseti recommends but it sounds like your doctor is doing this exactally the right way. Congrats on getting your hours reduced, I know how exctiting that is and enjoy your extra hours out of the brace! & Grace urcf FAB 13 hrs > > Our son has been in the DBB for 3 months for 23 hours a day. Guest guest
Not claiming this is right but thought I'd let you know what is happening with our hours being reduced as we are at the same stage. We have to start by reducing it down from 23 to 20 hours a day for 6 weeks. After this our doctor wants to check his feet for flexibility and then she will go from there as to wether he can reduce his hours further. She tells us it will be gradual and working down to 12/14 hours by the time he is walking.(Our doctor is Naomi - Ponseti listed doctor in Manchester, UK and highly recommended by Dr Ponseti himself!) Our son is currently 9 months old and has had 2 goes at the Ponseti method (With different doctors as first time it didn't work!) His feet have responded really well with our current doctor and his feet have been quite stiff and described as atypical so maybe she is working on the more cautious side. I also really feel that although it's actually great he is finally one step further along the clubfoot journey but at the same time it's quite scary to be reducing the hours. I guess with 23 hours a day you don't really have to worry that things might relapse. I've already been pestering my doctor to let me know what I need to look out for as the first signs of relapse. Anxious mums eh! Hope it all goes really well for you Kathy and Ethan (mitchells 23/24) --- reid jones wrote: --------------------------------- Our son has been in the DBB for 3 months for 23 hours a day. Is this in accordance with the Ponsetti method? Your help is appreciated! , mom to Austin 21/
Guest guest
Hi , I emailed Dr Ponseti about this at the time (about 2 or 3 years ago, together with some pictures) and this is what he told me: 23h/day for first 3 months, then 18h/day until cruising, then 14-16h/day until 2 years old, then 12h/day until 3 or 4 years old. I think other people have been told slightly different hours so it might have changed over the years, or it might have been adjusted depending on how the foot looks etc... Hope this helps, with (3y) and Alister (3y, RCF, Ponseti method, UK) --- reid jones wrote: > Our son has been in the DBB for 3 months for 23 > hours a day.
