Guest guest
Sue, that's fantastic! What a nice change, too. I'm sure you'll be sleeping better at night. I would think, after dealing with domestic violence & sexual assault cases all day, it's hard not to bring it home with you. You're a special person for doing that kind of work. I know it would take a huge toll on me. But, you'll be great at this job, and great for this doctor! in NJ
Guest guest
Sue - Congrats!! I'm so happy for you. It's nice to be able to have someone who's 'been there' to talk with. That's the reason I'm going into Dietetics and specialize in Bariatrics. Again, congrats!! i can't believe it.. ok, where do I start......... april was filled with packing boxes, lots of boxes, like 180 of them for moving from rural southwest VA to florence, sc. May was filled with unpacking those boxes, getting settled and getting things like insurance, dmv, applying for in-state tuition for my kids, etc. done. I had a job before moving here - doing the same domestic violence and sexual assault work although after meeting with the woman about 4x in the last 9mo. I was convinced she was a nutcase and after leaving a program where I was the boss I just didnt' know if I wanted to do the work anymore, let alone not be the boss [pro's and con's there] and just kept hunting the want ads. I joined a fitness center and have enjoyed working out and feel more in control than ever before of my eating and lifestyle. part of that is because I wanted to be somewhere thats warmer and sunnier and had anticipated this move for over a year. anyhow - last friday I called the local surgeon who I knew did gb to see if he would do some followup/bloodwork or does he refer out and if so to who? is someone in town knowledgeable about 'us'? while I'm talking to the office manager I find out their patient advocate/coordinator for the gb's quit and they were interviewing. I ask if I can send a resume and we continue to talk. I email him a resume and mention in the email that I created my surgeons website and include the link. he wasn't able to open my email attachment but checked out the website and called my surgeon. he set up an interview without seeing my resume for monday. on monday I met with both surgeons who do the gb and the office manager and the head nurse. he said he'd call by friday. about an hour later he called and asked me to return today. when I got there he immediately offered me the job! I was so psyched - I felt like this was going to happen, meant to be - I knew I didnt' want to start the other job which would be tomorrow. so, starting monday I'll be doing their orientation seminars, support groups, meeting with new pre and post ops and collecting statistics and such. it should be fun, I'm so ready for a change and I wanted my surgeon to create a position like this for me years ago and it just wasnt' possible. and the kicker - I'll be at the conf. in boston in a couple weeks!!! cool!! ok, so now I'm paying attention.....who else besides vitalady and michele [one L] is going? sue
Guest guest
Sue, that's wonderful news. I can so relate to not wanting to go back to the domestic violence job without being in charge. I am dealing with some of that now, in a different social service arena. It's tough once you have been in control, to give that up. I am so happy that things have worked out so beautifully. They are really lucky to have you! hugs, Ann
Guest guest
Hurray for YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is so awesome. I would like to creat my own job. And NO it wouldn't be grooming dogs. LOL I take better pictures of houses then MOST Realtors and I am trying to talk a friend of mine (A broker/owner) to hire me to take pictures for the internet. It would be so cool....I love to look at houses and I take pictures from a woman's point of view. I find that most Realtors just don't seem to take " accurate " pictures of the homes they have listed. So, my job would be to do that. We are also trying to talk him into hiring to do video streaming so they can have " tours " of the homes. LOL I sure do LOVE to look at houses. Just HATE to do paper work. Gimme a camera and I am a happy camper.
