I am 6 months post op and just had my labs done. They came out

excellent and I was very excited, however, another person post-op

rained on my parade by telling me that deficiencies don't show up for

at least a year post-op. Is this correct? Has anyone more than one

year post op had any problems with deficiecies? Either protein or

calcium?

Tracey, she's wrong.

My 3 month labs showed borderline low protein and the beginning of

iron deficiency anemia. I had very normal values preop.. so if mine

showed, so would yours. Trust your doc.. he wouldn't be checking it

at 6 months if he wasn't looking at the results. congrats on your

wonderful labs! I'm hoping 6 months will show big changes for me. =)

Tracey,

Calcium and iron deficiencies can take a few years to build up, but

protien deficiencies tend to show up during the most rapid period of

weight loss (first year). So you need to keep being vigalent about

taking your supliments, but at the same time you should celebrate

your success.
