Wow, I am in tears here for your little girl, tears of joy. What a happy story!

I hope all continues to go well for you both.

is cast free after 5 months

Our return trip to Iowa, January 9th to get 's casts off was a

huge success. Her feet looked GREAT!!! They were so straight and

beautiful. They looked so good that Dr. Ponseti and Dr. Morcuende

both agreed that she did not need to be fitted for AFO's for

nighttime. ( knew we were going to Iowa to get her casts

removed, she would get to play with her feet in playdough for the

molding of the AFO's, and then she would get short walking casts on

below the knee till the AFO's were done and fitted to her before we

returned home.) She was so funny when I told her she didn't need to

have the other short casts put on. She looked at me and said, " No

more casts? " When I replied yes, she very excitedly exclaimed, " No

more casts!!! " She was so proud of her little feet and her sweet

little sandals she finally got to wear. For those of you that don't

know the sandal story, has always asked to be able to wear

sandals but with feet as severe as hers I could never buy her shoes.

All of her shoes were specially made and they were basically little

booties like what a baby would wear. She loves to put her shoes and

socks on and take them off repeatedly.

It was so awesome how all of this worked out, since we didn't need to

do the AFO's we were planning on we had the whole week to do physical

therapy to get her stronger and more confident before we returned

home. When they removed her casts after 5 months she could not walk

or stand straight or even crawl. We did physical therapy everyday

that week and I took her swimming at the rec center to exercise her

legs as well as her exercises during the day. Ponseti came over and

watched her in therapy on both Wednesday and Friday. Morcuende came

over on Wednesday, too and he also saw her in clinic on Friday. By

the time we left on Sunday she could stand up straight (holding on to

something), walk with her little walker with very little assistance

from us (when we first started she had to have lots of help), could

crawl, go up and down stairs, ride her favorite tricycle at RMH, and

was continuing to make huge progress. We can never thank Dr. Ponseti

and Dr. Morcuende for what they did for our little girl. She loves

being able to wear shoes now and even slept with her sandals in bed

with her every nap and nighttime in Iowa. It is so fun to be able to

buy her shoes in the store now. She loves her little light up shoes,

too.

We will return to Iowa in another 6 weeks to make sure we still don't

need to do AFO's at night. I am continuing her daily physical

therapy at home. She is now walking with her walker on her own and

rode her 2 wheeler bike (she got 2 weeks ago for her birthday) around

the neighborhood today pedalling it most the way. She is standing

tall and doing well. I can't believe the progress she's made in just

10 days. We are forever grateful to all of them in Iowa. I still am

in amazement of her beautiful feet!!! They truly performed a miracle

for our little girl.
