If I had milk, cheese or yogurt, I wouldn't have this problem that I can remember. Based on what I see on symptom checkers on the internet, symptoms of lactose intolerance don't include fever or achiness. Maybe it's a problem with casein, but why was it limited to ice cream? The brands that bothered me were Bryers and Braun's. Publix store brand and Bruster's did not bother me. If you were only bothered by certain brands of ice cream, not even all ice cream, or any other dairy products, it's probably not a casein or lactose issue because all dairy (except butter, some cheeses, and SCD yogurt) has lactose and casein. You would've reacted to all of it. It was probably some ingredient they added as flavoring or a preservative. Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)

LaurieI would hazard a guess that it was some other ingredient. They add all sorts of stuff to commercial ice cream -- like gum and thickeners as well as skimmed milk powder. I could be the differing amount of sugar or sweeteners that manufacturers use. Sounds more like a yeast type flare than a casein/lactose response.AmeliaTo:

Hello.

I know that milk with lactose is illegal, but I'm trying to get a better idea of the effects of foods. When I used to eat regular (non-SCD) ice cream, all day the next day, I'd have diarrhea along with fever, achiness, headache, flu-like symptoms. I'd probably start having the symptoms the day before, but I definitely would feel it the next day. Does anyone else have a fever due to lactose intolerance? Are these sites I'm viewing just misinformed? Could it have been some other ingredient?

Thanks!
