In my case, I crossed out permissions for any other surgeon to

operate and initialed in the margin. I designated that only Dr.

Elariny had my consent to operate on me. --Steve

Dr. Deveney only came and saw me ONCE while I was in the hospital

recouperating from my operation and it was LITERALLY for less than

one minute.

He walked quickly into the room wearing OR scrubs (including the

little hat and mask hanging down around his neck), said, " How

are you doing today? " I replied, " OK, I guess " . And he said,

" Good. " and he left the room - that's the last I saw of him until

my 3-week followup.

I didn't think that much about it at the time because I didn't

think he had been my surgeon. Now that I know he was my surgeon,

I'm aghast that that was the extent of his concern after my

surgery.

My opinion of this guy was never great, and it just keeps getting

worse.

Judie-

Dr. Welker is the surgeon I chose - Dr. Clifford Deveney is the

surgeon I got.

That's my question too..What if some sort of emergengy happened, and the

surgeon needed an extra set of hands quickly...would they not be able to

help? Robyn

My guess is that life-threatening situations override such restrictions. --S

I do believe, at least in American hospitals, that unless you have

a living will that the hospital has agreed to abide by (and maybe

not even then), they cannot just let you die in a hospital,

regardless of any other contract or spoken wish. If an

emergency arises, they have to do anything and everything

possible to save your life and you can complain about it later. If

an emergency arises and your designated surgeon needs

assistance, then he/she can (and darn well better) ask for

assistance.

I do have a copy but unfortunately it is very incomplete.

Dr. Welker is listed partway between " surgeon " and " assistant "

and Cliff Deveney is listed as surgeon.

The report is so incomplete that, when asked, Deveney could not

tell me how long my aliminery limb is and when a nurse who has

HAD the duodenal switch looked at it, she could not tell how

long they made my common channel - she said it was missing some

important stuff.
