Guest guest
I attended the ASBS(American Society of Bariatric Surgeons) conference this year and one of the topics was post-op pregnancy. The consensus was that you are indeed high risk, and that you absolutely do need protein supplementation (shakes) during your pregnancy because you cannot get enough for you and your baby. Since we recommend 3-5 shakes normally, you should be drinking evenmore than that. As for the calcium...what reasoning did your ob/gyn have for stopping them? You need calcium, and I would think that your baby needs even more. But...I am not a doctor. I am 4.5 months pregnant and 1 yr post op. My OBGYN DR is telling me I am not at all at an risk and from the beginning told me to stop taking my calcium and other vitamins and just take my prenatals- I am reading up on this tonight and I am a bit worried. I have a Drs appiontment on Tuesday and I am hoping to get some insight on some things I can tell her to maybe open her eyes to my surgery. I am no longer in touch with my surgeon and kinda feeling a bit nervous and alone on this issue. Any advice I would love to recieve from you. And anything I can tell my DR on Tuesday in such a way that she wont feel like I dont think she knows what she is doing will be nice.
