I am 3 and a half years out now. In the beginning I was the same way I didn't care who knew about my surgery. At the water aerobics class that I was going to everyone knew there because we all we friends. They were a big part of my support team also. After a while it just seems not that it is a big secret or a shame issue but why do I need to go into such big detail about my past. I do still have eating issues so I do still watch what I eat. Like Francisco and Robyn stated it does become a personal preference. The question is do you want the whole world to know your business or not.

In the medical world it has become such a big issue our privacy to our health and our health issues. I think that it is something that we should also take into consideration. I just don't think that at times it is good to share with everyone everything. I am not denying that it didn't save my life because it did. I am grateful that Kaiser does offer this type of service to us. If I see someone that I know will benefit from my knowledge and I feel comfortable with that person I will share my experience but that is as far as it will go.

Another thing you have to take into consideration when you are talking to someone are their feelings. What if that person you are tell the wonders of your surgery and they should go for it doesn't have medical coverage? You have to take into consideration who you are talking to. I did that once and all I did was make the person feel more miserable.

This is just for myself I am just am careful who I let into my private space. Just as I don't like my feeling to get hurt I don't like to hurt other peoples feelings either.
