Guest guest
I've been reading where people have regained all their weight back after RNY. That just blows my mind! I know that even though I'm two years out, when I try to eat foods that are high in sugar or fat, I feel AWFUL! I hate that feeling! I don't throw up or anything and never have. But I feel shaky and my heart races and weak and sometimes nauseous. It's enough of a bad feeling that I stay away from those foods when I can. I tried cheating a lot after the holidays last year and gained back 10 pounds. But while I was doing it, I felt so bad, I HAD to go back and eat right again and lost that weight plus 5 more (with Weight Watchers!). I just don't see how we can gain ALL our weight back if we feel badly when we eat these foods. Do you think those people who gain their weight back just don't have those bad feelings anymore or dump at all, and that's how they are able to do it? It's the only way I can see it happening! Guest guest
The malabsorptive part of the RnY, DS or BPD is what is supposed to help keep the weight off after your pouch or stomach stretches a bit to allow you to eat more. Distals absorb less than proximals or medials. --Steve At 3:11 PM +0000 7/30/03, Robin wrote: > I just don't see how we >can gain ALL our weight back if we feel badly when we eat these >foods. Guest guest
I agree, and the saddest part is that so many people who regain blame themselves for failing because they have no idea that there are mechanical problems that can occur, whether it be a stretched stoma, staple line disruption, hypertrophy or whatever. They're usually too ashamed to go back to their surgeons. When I found out about my staple line disruption about 3 1/2 years ago, I was very active in the Obesityhelp chatroom, and I can't tell you how many people just assumed I out-ate the surgery and caused it myself. I had spoken to a very nice surgeon who explained to me how sometimes the stomach tissue just rejects the staples, and got so tired of explaining it to people, but I had to get the word out that it's not our fault! in NJ ************************** > Although I have seen at least one person who gained back some of her weight by binging on carbs, I have seen many more people who have regained or stopped losing because of surgical mechanical problems. > > Barbara Jean >

Some of us dump, some of us dump a little, some of us don't dump at all. Then there are the times that you dump and it is on something you have eaten a million times, or you DON'T dump on something that you ALWAYS dump on. Who knows? I think only the Dump GOD knows. LOL Brilliant, all surgeons should post this on their walls.
