But I also had such sore feet all of the time that I could never go barefoot. I wore men's athletic shoes all of the time. The width on them fit me better. It is nice to be able to go around the house barefoot now! I still usually wear wides, but just regular wides. They are much easier to find. njr36@... Guest guest
I can only speak for myself but my feet have always been very wide (and flat). In addition, they were very deep (from sole to the top of the foot). This was probably from swelling. This made it difficult to buy and fit comfortably in most shoes. I could only shop at specialty shops or catalogs. I had to punch extra holes in the strap to wear a shoe with a strap and loosely lace any laced shoe. I have always been amazed as to how short these shoemakers make these straps. I was limited in style selection. For example, slip-ons could not go above the toe line or they would dig into my feet. If I found a shoe that was comfortable, I usually bought in every color figuring I had hit paydirt. I had even discovered a special way to lace my tennis shoes to accommodate my problems. Since my surgery, my feet are no longer deep or swollen, so that I can wear all shoes comfortably. Also, although my feet are still wide they do not seem to be as wide as before. I have tighten all my laces and straps on existing shoes. Most importantly, my feet do not hurt anymore after walking or standing.
