C LOOKING FOR SOME GUIDANCE

i am trying to make a decesion about 2 os

for lower jaw my od recomemed 2. the first

one has done like 1000 a little pompus but

supposedly one of the best. i went in today

and i was talking to another od he mentioned

the other os and here is what got my attention

DR # 2 IVE NEVER HAD ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT

his work. i think the inference was number1 has had

a few albeit he does more. dr 2 does about 20

a year has done 200 total approx. HOW DO

YOU DECIDE DOC TOLD ME ITS UP TO ME BOTH ARE

GREAT ANY GUIDANCE C OR ANYONE

Ok, first off, who said that Dr.#1 has received complaints? Was it

Dr.#2, was it former patients of Dr.#1? Second, what was the nature

of these complaints? Was it that he doesn't have a great bedside

manner or that the patients suffered relapses or that the dr. just

did a bad job?

I'd be hesitant to go with a doctor just because he/she infers that

another doctor has had complaints whereas he/she hasn't. That's not

very ethical or professional and I wouldn't trust a doctor who

behaves in that way. This said, if you've heard complaints from

previous patients of Dr.1 try to see if you can talk to patients of

Dr. 2 as well to see what their feedback is.

For me when I had to decide between two doctors I decided to go with

the one who had a better known reputation and had performed more

operations like the one I had to do. Both of my doctors were good and

came with good recommendations so it was difficult to make a

decision. In the end i went with the one that inspired me with the

most confidence. The doctor that I chose has done over 1000 surgeries

of the particular type of surgery that I will be having done. In

terms of total number of general jaw surgeries I would say that he's

done at least 50 a year and he has been doing this for the last 20

years.
