Hi Dawn, I too was working full time as an RN before the neuro hit me, I started my own home based business which I believe has saved my sanity, I can do it on my hours, when I feel good, and if I don't then I don't do

anything. It's a very positive environment, with a lot of great peopleand truly it's saved my sanity. When I was first dx with Sarcoid in my lungs, I was working night, and my doctor strongly suggested I quit,

and so I did, I spent 3 months at home, got depressed and thought I would lose my mind, so went to work in a clinic part time, that was good, and I went into remission, so got back on at the hospital doing days, I was so happy to be back, but then in 2 years the

Sarcoid went neuro, I knew doing nothing would make me crazy, so having my own business is great. Do I still miss nursing yes, in fact I tried a few other things, like teaching at a community college, but found that the

3 hour lectures, and the long days were just too much too. I miss nursing, but doing something other then L & D, is just not what I want to do. It's been over 5 years since I left L & D, it's still hard for me to go and visit my friends there,

but I now know that is behind me, so just concentrate more on my business, keep my self as busy as I can. Life goes on, and for me I know God has a plan for me, and this is part of it, that helps me too, and my family!

If you would like me too, I will keep you in my prayers. there are a lot of nurses on this site too, so maybe they will let you know how they've coped with the change. Blessings to you, Marla

May the Lord bless you and keep you,May the Lord make his face to shine uponYou,And be gracious to you;May the Lord lift up his favor upon you and give you his peace.(Numbers 6:24-26)

I am new to the group and have found way more information here than I

have anywhere else...so THANK YOU ALL for all of your posts and info! I

was diagnosed with sarcoidosis in December- at that point they thought

only my lungs and joints. I had an MRI of my brain on Monday which

shows that I have neurosarcoid as well. I have been on Prednisone since

I was diagnosed- 80 mg a day for a month then tried to taper. Got down

to 40 mg when the neuro symptoms kicked in so they put me back up to 60

for now til I can see a neurologist. My doc also just told me I am now

a steroid induced diabetic so now I am on meds for that. I feel very

overwhelmed with all of this- I was healthy prior to this illness and

working as an RN full time. I am not able to work now due to all the

symptoms and am wondering how you all deal with all the lifestyle

changes and emotions related to this disease. Thank you again for all

the info- I appreciate it so much!

Hey Dawn

I am not a nurse but I was a CNA for 20 years. I too had to quit my much loved profession, yes I said profession, because of this monster. When I first came home from the nursing home I couldn't do much of anything but sit and watch TV. I thought this is crap. I am now really big in crafting, sewing and family. I am also on the Governing Board of Aging and Disability Resource Center in Southwest Wisconsin. I love it. I still visit the Nursing Home I was a resident in, also it just so happens to be where I worked for the previous 4 years.

It wasn't easy and I guess I did a lot of poor me, but It is all ok now.

I am taking a course or courses this fall for Medical Tech. and Medical Coding. The DVR is helping me do this. I will be able to work, and study from home because of the tiredness and not being able to get around as much. I am really looking forward to it.

It doesn't happen overnight but you will find there is a place for you and you will be ok with it, at least as much as you can.

Go ahead and do your poor me bouts but keep in mind that this doesn't just hit a person it takes a toll on all who love that person.

If God takes us too it he will help us through it. That I NOW believe.

Take Care

Jackie

Hi Again!

I met with the neuro team and have been told that I need a spinal tap to

determine if I also have MS with the neurosarcoid...I spent 2 1/2 hours in an

MRI machine and they think I have both. I can't wait for the results so I can

start a treatment other than the prednisone which is really messing with my

health! I have become a steroid induced diabetic, so am checking my sugar

multiple times a day and taking meds for that too. I want to thank you all for

the words of encouragement and the laughs (snarky sarkie lol)! I find strength

and hope in many of the posts here. You all remain in my prayers.
