I suspect that you Canadian insurance will not cover anything done in

the US, so unless you have other private insurance, you will have to

self-pay.

Since you are self-pay, you do not need a referal. You can just pick

up the phone and make an appointment (do this ASAP, as there is a

long wait for most DS surgeons). Be sure to ask the surgeons if they

take self-pay and what the approximate costs would be. Costs in the

US vary from widely from $25,000-$50,000. The metrapolitan areas

like Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco tend to be more

expensive. Areas like Eugene, OR, Delano, CA etc. tend to be on the

low end of the scale.

I suggest that you speak with several surgeons offices and then

narrow down the field to two or three suregons. Make consulations

with the two or three suregons and then decide which one to go with.

The travel is a hastle, but one that is shared by many who want the

DS.

If cost is an issue you could consider going to Dr. Baltasar in

Spain. There are a number of people who have done that for total

costs of about $15,000 including travel expenses.

will ask him next time. I was curious, because I'm from Canada,

would I go about getting a referral to an American WL surgeon the

same way that I would getting a referral to a Canadain WL surgeon.?

If not, how do I go about doing that? I'm hopefully going to be put

on a list but I really can't wait for 3 years or however long it is
