Guest guest
Hey zulu, I didn't get more than one opinion from one ortho and the only surgeon he works with. I don't think it's always necessary to get a second or third opinion, it depends on the individual and your level of trust with the professionals. I'm not saying don't do it, but there are a few of us here who didn't do more than one consult, and who had excellent results. > > > > im currently 15 yrs old and ive had braces for about 3 yrs > now...my > > orthodontist wants me to under go lower jaw surgery but im really > > not sure whether i want to do it or not. at first i didnt even > > consider it but my parents want me to do it. im just really scared > > of the risks u could have after u have the surgery and i dont know > > what to do. my orthodontist really wants me to do this and its > just > > so much pressure. i dont have any problems eating/breathing or > > anything..pls give me advice on what i should do or your opinion > on > > this. please reply back. thankyou
Guest guest
I am also in this camp, . My periodontist, who has been recommended by every dentist I've seen, recommended my ortho, with no other recommendations. My own general dentist agreed, and told me his sister's children had been treated by this ortho. I knew some people who'd undergone treatment in his care, and they universally and enthusiastically praised him. In addition, I found him kind and gentle, and liked him immediately, even if I wasn't too keen on what he told me about surgery. He wanted me to see a particular oral surgeon, which I did, and I also liked and trusted him. When I dropped his name with a few medical and dental professsionals I knew in other contexts, the general response was, " Well, you certainly have good doctors! " That confirmed what I'd thought and been told. So I felt no need for other consults. But if any of these parts had not fit into place, I'd have probably sought a second or third opinion. And I did ask a number of dentists in varying parts of that profession. I would also have wanted more consults if any red flags had gone up for me along the way. My ortho did not charge for the first consult. My surgeon did. Cammie > > Hey zulu, > > I didn't get more than one opinion from one ortho and the only > surgeon he works with. Guest guest
Yup, I knew you were in that camp, of course! My ortho charged me, though, I think about C$250 for the consultation, but that was for a whole battery of tests that he did (TMJ specialist), and it took several months before I saw him again for the results. He's very thorough. Sometimes gut feelings are what you go with, and that's always worked well for me. I'm not suggesting that for others, just that it seems to work for me. And as you know, Dr T, my surgeon, is well respected and an obvious choice if you investigate further, so I only got more confirmations as I went along that he was the right surgeon for the job. > > > > Hey zulu, > > > > I didn't get more than one opinion from one ortho and the only > > surgeon he works with.
