If you would consider having surgery in Miami, Florida, I have a

wonderful surgeon. My surgery was over one year ago and I am very

pleased with my results. You can view my photos in the photo section

of this website unfder " Miami " .

Email me if you want info on my surgeon.

Hi,

Your surgeon should tell you beforehand if he/she is planning on using

rigid fixation or not. My surgeon told me he has been using rigid

fixation for pretty much the whole time he has been practicing. He

said it is very very unusual to need to wire somebody after such type

of surgery, but he had to do it once or twice in his career. However,

I would imagine that in certain cases it might be necessary, for

example, when the bone doesn't break cleanly, or when the bone is too

brittle. Certain circumstances might come up during surgery that

could necessitate to change the intended course of action. Make sure

you discuss all of this with your surgeon.

In terms of finding good surgeons, word of mouth is a good start. I

would also look for somebody who has been practicing for at least 10

years, and preferrably, affiliated with a dental school. You don't

necessarily want somebody who will be over confident that everything

will go just great, but someone who will give you an accurate picture

of what you can expect in terms of side effects, pain, expense, etc.

Irene.
