Guest guest
according to my surgeon, the time to regain full mouth opening varies from person to person... i'd say that is the least of your worries... i had perfect symmetry before surgery... the surgery caused slight asymmetry ... i too thought that it was uneven swelling, but it was not... > > Hello, I am 5 weeks post op lower advancement. Guest guest
I would talk with your surgeon about what exercises to do. Jaws still aren't fully healed at 5 weeks. It was almost 3 months post-op for me before my ortho would give me resistance exercises (at that point, he said use it or lose it). Before then, I would just stretch my mouth opening, not to the point of pain, as often as I could. I also made a lot of funny faces in the mirror, wide grins, Elvis snarls, puckered lips, etc. If nothing else, it was entertaining : ) Today my opening is, according to my surgeon, greater than pre-op, although it doesn't feel like that to me. As for the swelling, residual swelling can take a long time to go down, but it sounds like you may have some swelling that is stuck. MLD therapy could help that. Might be worth looking into. And for numbness, I think you know the answer .... Patience. Hang in there! > > Hello, I am 5 weeks post op lower advancement. I think I am healing > pretty well but have a couple of questions. Guest guest
Hey There - I am 5 weeks post op today and am experiencing all the same things as you. Had upper and lower - chin and lower lip still numb and also some numbness in my gums. I am still swollen too - have heard it can take about 3-8 months to really start to see bone formation and complete decrease in swelling. My surgeon told me I should be able to fit 3 fingers (side by side) in my mouth. Practice your exercises - the jaw is like any bone, for healing and strengthening you need to work on it. I may go see a Jaw physio in a week or so. Cheers, Jen PS> I heard you shouldnt force it open... > > Hello, I am 5 weeks post op lower advancement. Guest guest
--Congratulations on your weight loss! I am in the process of losing my 10%. I struggle but just take it a day at a time. I was wondering what you did to lose the 50 lbs. before your surgery? How long did it take you? Any helpful hints? Thanks! >> I will be 5 weeks post op tomorrow and so far since surgery I'm down 26 > lbs. Since my orientation in Nov Im down a total of 76 lbs. Things are > going great. I havent had any problems.
