Hiya!

You sound a bit like me in my last letter. I am also rubber banded shut

and in a lot of pain with that same grinding thing going on. It feels

like everything is constantly shifting and the whole thing is sort of

hap-hazzardly held together by spit and scotch tape. My surgery was on

1/24 so I am a little advanced from you in terms of the healing stage.

It's hard to really see what's going on just yet... things will sort of

settle into place. When my back teeth were not meeting after they

rubber banded me the first time, I asked about it and was told the

orthodontist could fix it with the braces. My boyfriend said it sounded

like computer people... the hardware people say it's software and the

software people say it's hardware. Why don't you make an appointment

with your ortho just to confirm that they will end up in the right

place? As long as you are still in the early healing stages, nothing is

set in stone - I only say that because that is what I was told when my

jaw was enjoying a field trip to the left side of my face. I was also

told that despite the fact that I felt like a big pain in their butts-

now was the time to speak up and make myself heard if something did not

feel right. Also, I had an overbite to start with and even now, still

feel like I have a bit of an overbite in the position my teeth are with

the rubber bands... They told me it is normal too- that in a " normal "

bite, the front top teeth will sit slightly in front of the bottom

teeth a bit- and especially in the rubber bands because they are so

tight. Maybe we have the same surgeon and were both getting the same

story...:-)

One thing will suggest... hold off on the regret until you have more

hard evidence to make the call... regret will just make you feel worse

and make the healing process longer and more frustrating. I've been

through regret- to happiness- to annoyance to relief and almost to

complete disassociation. Your mood will change as your teeth do.

Good luck!

Hang in there!

I had an 11mm overjet and braces reduced it to 5mm... surgery

corrected the rest of the overjet. So, braces can probably fix that

overjet...

the surgeon can use many trick post-op to fine tune and perfect the

results...
