Guest guest
Hi , Our daughter didn't end up needing the tenotomy, she has unilateral right club foot. Her doctor (Ponseti certified) said that he performs the tenotomy in over 95% of cases he treats though. He told us after her 3rd cast that she may not end up needing it as her dorsiflexion and range of motion were really good but also stressed that that was not for sure and that he would decide after she came out of her next cast which ended up being her last one. We could get her foot out past 85 degrees outward rotation - if there was any question about the flexibility of her foot, I personally would have wanted the tenotomy done. & Grace 18 mos unilateral rcf FAB 13 hrs > > Hi All, > I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who did not need the > tenotomy? Guest guest
did not need the tenotomy...yet anyway. Both our doc here and Dr. Ponseti agreed that her right foot has great dorsiflexion but her left is between 5-10 degrees when it needs to be at 15 degrees. Both struggled with whether or not to do the tenotomy and both decided against it since there is a chance that the heel cord could stretch. She came out of her casts today and is currently in her FAB. Her ortho said that if she didn't tolerate the shoes with her current dorsiflexion, then we would do the tenotomy on the left foot only. The right foot never needed it and that was clear pretty much from the beginning. So, no, not all babies need a tenotomy. About 90% do, but there are those who do not and do well without it. It just depends on the dorsiflexion of the foot. Carol and , bcf, FAB 23/7 Tenotomy Question Hi All, I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who did not need the tenotomy? Or, is the tenotomy part of the whole protocol? Thanks in advance for your replies. and -J'nee (born 1-7-06, bcf)
Guest guest
, The tenotomy is performed in about 80% of cases. It is not a part of the protocol if it is not needed.
