Guest guest
everything you said is good and well . I think if I was considering missionary work I would discuss it with my surgeon and see what he says. Its possible if you have the right surgeon that he would support you in what you feel called to do. I now have a question that I have not seen asked.....soon, the flu season will be upon us. If someone get the flu (we all know when you are that sick you do not feel like eating!) what do we do when we can not eat? Any advise? (other than the flu shot which I will not take) Judie
Guest guest
I agree with in that we all need to make a concerted effort to do everything required of us for compliance. Perhaps, bloodwork could be taken and forwarded to the states for testing? And, a source for making sure you were able to get all your vitamins/supplements. Along the lines of compliance, I just want to reiterate how very important it is to be compliant with the vitamins and supplements. Recently, we have had two different post-ops (one 9 years out and one 5 years out) who have developed osteoporosis. I asked the one who is 9 years out to speak at our support group meeting. She had osteoporosis so bad at her 3 year point, that she had to wear a calcium IV for several months. When she finally went to the emergency room, she could barely walk or talk. She was not compliant in taking her supplements and because she " felt so good " - decided she did not need to heed the advice of her surgeon. She is doing much better now, but I'm afraid to say that even after all of that, she apparently still isn't taking her calcium as she should. I made a comment along the lines of " boy, I bet you take your calcium and all the other supplements religiously, now " . Her reply was " excuse me? " . I repeated my comment and she replied with the same reply -- excuse me -- and was kind of chuckling -- I could not BELIEVE that after going through all of that, she would still not be compliant. The gentlemen who is 5 years out, also recently found out he has osteoporosis and when he found this out, he had five broken ribs. It is so VERY important to be compliant with the aftercare requirements of this surgery.
