Guest guest
In my experience, the foods that blended best were ones that were liquid or at least soft to begin with -- I made do with a lot of mashed potatoes (white and sweet) and soups with tofu thrown in, as well as shakes, yogurt, pudding, etc. (For cereal I relied on cream of wheat -- I wanted oatmeal, but it always clogged things up!) Other folks have also had luck with blending soft pasta + sauce and cake + milk (!!!). More textured soups (like clam chowder or lentil soup or whatever) will also have to be strained, so that the various bits and pieces that aren't totally liquified don't get caught in your wires/bands. I would guess that cereals like cornflakes aren't ever going to blend very well, unless you let them get really soggy for quite awhile before you try blending. Also, I found that using a " stick " blender sometimes worked better for a lot of things, because I could move it around and see if there were any bits that needed extra blending. (If you don't have one, they're not that expensive -- I've seen them at places like Target or Sears for around 20 or 30 bucks.) I pretty much only used the more traditional type of blender for shakes and smoothies. hang in there! Sara > > Hello! > > Am 6 days post-op, upper & lower & two wisdom teeth. Guest guest
I just had celery root, onion & potato. It can be cooked until soft and then blended, adding nutmeg/butter/milk as you wish. And I just made some ratatouille, which could be blended too, I'm sure - it's made with zucchini, eggplant, onion, garlic, green or red peppers, and tomatoes with herbs (oregano, savory, thyme and marjoram) all cooked until it's really soft. > > Hello! > > Am 6 days post-op, upper & lower & two wisdom teeth. Guest guest
Just remembered: a friend gave me a neat recipe - cook cauliflower until it's almost mush, and mash it up with fresh dill and mayonnaise (nayonnaise for the vegans here). It's my new favourite! > > Hello! > > Am 6 days post-op, upper & lower & two wisdom teeth. I know it's > early days but i'm already getting fed up of the diet! Guest guest
I may be weird and unhealthy, but I found I like broth cooked with sour cream or cream cheese, and then squished through a strainer. > > Hello! > > Am 6 days post-op, upper & lower & two wisdom teeth. Guest guest
Sara, I'm new at this (1.5 wks post op), but to date I've had success with mashed potatoes, canned vegetables (fresh and steamed to death work well too) and a variety of creamed soups as the base for something better. If you want to fortify your soup, try adding a 1/2 can of deviled chicken or ham (or plain canned tuna) to the soup and blend it till smooth. I acheived PBJ by blending Peanuut Butter (creamy, no nuts) with the cream at the top of the Stonyfield Farm yogurt, and let it set overnight. Then you add Jelly and enough milk to loosen it and it's pretty close to the real thing! The ultimate comfort food. I'm always on the lookout for a good roasted red pepper soup. If anyone finds one, please pass it on. Remember, thick and hot (warm) liquids fills you up faster than thin cool ones. HEavy cream, half & half, vanilla Ensure, Boost or any of the other meal replacements/supplements will help thicken any concoction that you make. Good Luck, > > > > Hello! > > > > Am 6 days post-op, upper & lower & two wisdom teeth. I know it's > > early days but i'm already getting fed up of the diet! Guest guest
I think there is a roasted red pepper soup recipe on the geocities site - my husband makes it for me. Check out the recipes links at http://www.geocities.com/orthognathicinfo/ I liked your PBJ recipe! > > > > > > Hello! > > > > > > Am 6 days post-op, upper & lower & two wisdom teeth.
