Guest guest
I was talking comfortably by week three. I did notice at that time when i talked a little too much my face would be sore, but helped it losen the muscles so the next time I talked alot it didnt hurt as much. And my talking was 100% by week five or six. I also didnt notice any change in my voice except i can better anunicate. I had trouble before surgery with certain sounds because my lips did not close naturally. Good luck with surgery. > > HI, > > I'm going to have upper jaw surgery next monday-Lefort I....It was > scheduled for 1/10, but they moved it back a few weeks. > > Reading all the posts about upper jaw surgery has really helped to > prepare me, but I'm still really really nervous. > > My surgeon said that the surgery will take about an hour, and I will > probably be going home the same day. Guest guest
Hi , and all those with this procedure upcoming. I had the upper jaw surgery on 8/27/04 and its now been 4.5 months since. I also play guitar and sing, though not very well to begin with. hehe I found the hardest thing to get used to was the expander appliance. i was in surgery for 30 minutes and out of the hospital 3 hours later. I was swollen for about 1 week and went back to work after 10 days. I am in sales so speaking is a must and it was tough at first. I barely even notice the appliance now, though I am still very excited to have it removed in a month or so. My voice has changed in that it is a bit deeper(only noticable by trained ears) and not as nasaly. I think its better. I had 12mm of expansion and no advancement. My two front teeth touched again for the first time 2 days ago, though a bit tilted, I think they will be fully closed in the next couple of weeks. Over all, if your unsure, I would recommend going through with it. If you've done your research and know your doctors are good, you only have to deal with the burdens of all these damn appliance(sorry gets a bit unerving sometimes). I would deffinetly do it over again without hesitation. Again, the only thing you really have to worry about is getting used to the expander appliance, other than that, its minor stuff here and there but not too bad over all. Good luck!!! Guest guest
Mark, Forgot to mention my surgery was a one piece Le fort I. They made one cut above the roots of my upper teeth. I have four plates and 16 screws holding it in place. By the way I dont feel them at all, I have heard some people say they feel theirs. > > > > > > > > HI, > > > > > > > > I'm going to have upper jaw surgery next monday-Lefort I....It > > was > > > > scheduled for 1/10, but they moved it back a few weeks. > > > > > > > > Reading all the posts about upper jaw surgery has really helped > > to > > > > prepare me, but I'm still really really nervous. > > > > > > > > My surgeon said that the surgery will take about an hour, and I > > > will > > > > probably be going home the same day. Guest guest
Hi : I was curious because you mentioned you didn't notice a change in your voice. My upper was moved up on one side 5mm and forward by 3mm and somehow has affected the resonance of my voice. Also, I don't hardly show enough upper teeth when I smile where I was gummy before. Another surgeon wants to move it back down 3 or 4 mm, so I'm wondering how the particular movements affect people. > > > > > > > > > > HI, > > > > > > > > > > I'm going to have upper jaw surgery next monday-Lefort > I....It > > > was > > > > > scheduled for 1/10, but they moved it back a few weeks. > > > > > > > > > > Reading all the posts about upper jaw surgery has really > helped > > > to > > > > > prepare me, but I'm still really really nervous. > > > > > > > > > > My surgeon said that the surgery will take about an hour, and > I > > > > will > > > > > probably be going home the same day.
